Hello! I bought this diesel awhile ago and the smoke unit never worked but the seller refunded me half the cost so I’ve never thought much about it. But now it’s bugging me. It’s an old Lionel TMCC BNSF Dash-9 6-18253 and it’s in great shape minus the smoke unit. I run off a conventional transformer so maybe that’s the issue? My MTH diesels smoke fine but maybe TMCC needs more voltage? I’ve replaced the wicking in the unit and cleaned it up well and even had it sit on the track for awhile with max power and not a hint of smoke

Holy Moses boys! I actually got it working. I have no idea what happened but when it was on the track with power, I was unscrewing the smoke cover to see if the element was hot and the screwdriver hit something and threw the engine into reverse and BAM! Smoke unit started right up. It doesn’t come out of the top very well though, mostly comes out from the sides or underneath when the body is put on. Is that normal?
