Smoke unit not working

Is the smoke chamber hot to the touch when you have the unit on?

I didn’t feel it. I put the shell back on and ran it some more with no change. 

Sometimes the fan can work but the elements may be at fault.

Being warm/hot to the touch identifies this.....matter of elimination.

Running in command DCS?  Low, Medium, High smoke choice?

Keep in mind that MTH smoke units are usually very thirsty critters!

I am running itvin DCS. I was running the unit on high and medium. When I pulled the shell, the wick wasn’t burnt. I added more fluid at that time. The leading A is smoking just fine. I’ll pull the shell again tomorrow to see if the unit is warm/hot.

Ok, I pulled the shell again. The fan is definitely working. I can see the blade start and stop when I turn the smoke on and off. 

The smoke unit is warm to the touch, but nothing that would burn your fingers. 

Should I open the unit to look at the wick as my next step?

Update

i pulled the cover. The wick was charred around the 2 elements. I pulled it out and moved the charred portions away. I put it back together and it works now. I guess I let it get too dry. 

I’ll order a new wick. 

When charred the fluid is prevented from reaching the element.  As mentioned, MTH units really like smoke fluid.  They produce a lot of smoke and use a lot of fluid.

There is a couple of really good videos on youtube about smoke units. I really like the one from Lionel. 

I modified my small diesel smoke unit per video, enlarging intake hole, re-wicking per the video and making sure no wick was in front of the air passage to the wick chamber. 

If you didn't know better you'd think it was an MTH smoke unit.

120 drops of premium smoke fluid
