Merry Christmas everyone! I got my MTH LIRR RS-1 in Tichy paint scheme. Yes, the cab roof is not painted black and  the PFA sounds are incorrectly for passenger service and not freight (Tichy painted engines were only used in freight service), but i love it!  It loaded up in dcs without a hitch and operates flawlessly.  Paint and other details look great.  The accent sounds, bells, and whistles are loud, clear and fabulous.   The only thing I had to do was  turn down the smoke to minimum since she smokes like a steam engine,  which makes a diesel look like it has severe engine problems. Otherwise, a great engine for what is probably my last newly manufactured MTH engine.  So, what did you all get?

Please dont get jealous when reading this. I am single and have two jobs and a real love of model trains. So here goes. Four Lionel legacy engines. The visionline UP challenger, 4014 excursion big boy, santafe northern and the santafe s4 switcher all brand new from trainworld/santa😋

Used I got mostly all mth preimer engines.  The UP coal turbine set, the UP veranda set. Two santafe hudsons and a texas 2-10-4. A santafe f3 aba set wich is also premier. Last but not least a hardly used legacy daylight with whistle steam. So with all this I think I may not be getting any trains for a few Christmases. Btw Being single with two jobs and a nice train savings fund does not hurt either😁  and no wife to complain thats two much money on those lousey trains. Now off to the layout to enjoy them. Merry Christmas to everyone here.

Finally got my Pere Marquette engine from the family and running it all day today in the peace and not so quiet of my train room.  Only sounds heard are the bells and the whistles of trains running around the tracks.  I've been wanting this engine for ever since I consider it a Michigan train.  Saw the real thing a few years ago pull into the station in Clare Mi. and it was a wonderful site.  Today as I say forget the Covid, just me and my trains running around the track.  Just need it renumbered to 1225 now.IMG_7788IMG_7792

John, what is the story here. Did someone make that for you or was there a real place that came from? I know the old B,R,&P now Rochester Southern ran through there.

I'm guessing my daughter got it from Etsy, custom made. It says Lone Star Art on the back. The route is now Buffalo and Pittsburgh, part of Genesee and Wyoming. I'm about 5 miles from each one, right in the middle.

My mother and fiance, got me a custom handmade Lionel O gauge Test Track set.

I found the gentleman making them on the bay, and they purchased one for me for my work bench.

It is about 40 inches long, comes with a UCS, 3 track sections, the leads,  and a bunch of different blocks to elevate your locomotive while working on it! Craftsman ship is top notch!! You can slide the engine holders to accommodate any size loco!

None i got all the trains i need right now!!!!!

Hello Cheesie1971

I agreed, last engine I purchased was a Railking U.P. Challenger #30-1724-1 in Dec, 2018.  This engine had number of paint defects and yet is new in the box.  I spend time to do touch ups. I have 4 engines with its own cars and that is plenty last me 45 years.  I got all the trains i need now !! How have you been so far ?  I watch many of your Williams and Railking train videos on YouTube, keep them coming !!

From my Grandson I got my first (of many to be sure) MTH building.... the local Hub Hobby Shop “Where all the Great Guys Are!”Truly helpful......  BUT they don’t do train re-pairs” hoping the Gi-Raffe supervisors help.... as I fixed and cleaned an engine, but.....  now it only goes re- -Verse.... LOVE IT!

Great seeing kids open up a new train set on Christmas morning.  We need more kids into this hobby so it does not fade away.   I have a 16 year old down the block from me hanging around my layout all the time with questions and for Christmas he got his train set.  Your video above reminds me of myself 70 some years ago when I got my first Marx 999 engine and have been into trains ever since

I have officially been recaptured by the Standard Gauge bug.  Sorry for the quality of the pic.  In the lower right corner are a John Deere thresher (1/28 scale) surrounded by a number of Barclay farm figures.  In the right, passengers await the next train by the station.  The upper shelf holds a gray Lionel 10E w/ 332, 339, 341.  The middle holds a green-stripe 384 with an assortment of 500-series freight cars.  Unfortunately, the 384 arrived with a broken frame and wheel.  I have already replaced the wheel and bought a replacement frame from Hennings.

One more pic:  no trains, but the Reason for the Season:

The elves at Lionel/Charles Ro/and FedEx combined to deliver my B&M Legacy powered E8 passenger set yesterday morning.

After unpacking and lubing the appropriate points, I powered the set up and everything works and runs like a Swiss watch. 15 drops of Lionel Premium fluid had the smoke unit pouring out the diesel fumes galore. My one disappointment is the "detailed interior with passengers" didn't include the fair-paying clientele.....

It pretty much mimics the catalog illustration, so I can't complain there. I do include a pix of my Atlas"O" F2 AB set for comparison.

Not a Christmas gift, per se, and bought this myself. Arrived about a week before Christmas...the new Lionel Area 51 Railroad Set with lighted green FasTrak. Very cool.

Set up on carpet central for now. After the holidays will do a small space-themed layout. Now where's that Menards UFO?

Santa got me the Legacy First Run Edition Big BoyUP 4014, Promontory Baggage car and the Excursion two Pack. The bluetooth app connectivity from an iPhone X was a bit disappointing so I also got my first Legacy Controller as well after the fact. Aaand found a Vision UP Aux. Water tender to tie it out a week later. And I'll stop there, that's all the positives.

Beauty Eh! Last year I took my Mom to go see the BigBoy 4014 and the UP consist Roar past us in Farmington, MN. Your Beautiful engine made me smile!! Thanks for the memory my friend...

wow just wow

I've been winding down the accumulation mode the last few years, but with MTH likely to shutter in April, I decided it was time to run down one set I've had interest in for awhile...11-6040-0, 616 Flying Yankee O Gauge Passenger Set - Traditional, Red/Silver. The wife found one at Mario's. Haven't even cracked it out of the box yet, but I'm hopeful it's a runner.

Strap Hanger,

Back to your original post on the LI RS-1.

I also purchased one.

On the side of the cab, is that a map of Long Island?

What years did the LI use this logo?

Hi Jeff, Sorry for the late response, but i missed your post. Yes, the Tichy logo is a picture of Long island with crossed lines through it, representing the LI Railroad's coverage of the "four corners" of Long island.  The Logo/paint scheme was used from 1949 to 1955. Read more here at www.trainsarefun.com/lirr/tichy/tichy.htm

PS, that link even has a picture of the actual LIRR RS-1 #469 that MTH based their model on. Pretty cool.

I bough myself a Lionel GP-20, 6-6820, Missouri Pacific the first week of January 2021 as a late Christmas gift.  I usually get all the Christmas bills!  It runs well, shows little wear on gears and shell and is my first more modern diesel.  I was hoping for a more colorful one with some yellow but settled on the blue MP and got a rare fair affordable deal on eBay.  It makes my 027 curves and 32 Marx 1590 switches as I limited myself to smaller diesels.  I wanted a drop nose diesel to better indicate the front end.

Got a new camera rig to help with train videos. This is a test video using the app. Merry Christmas!

Nice video.  I took a few just like that and then found out that my library has free loans on GoPro cameras.  I mounted one to flat car and placed it in front of the engine and took videos straight ahead and then turned it on a 45 degree angle and shot the rest of the layout.  I am posting 2 short videos under 100 mb limit for you to see what a GoPro camera shows

If it won't overwhelm your space, consider getting the 8565 dummy that goes with it:  the two units make an impressive consist on short trains.

@Lary great videos! I need to check my library to see if they have any Go-Pros. Your scenery/ layout is excellent. I can only dream of having that level of detail on my layout.

thanks appreciate the compliment.  I've worked on this layout for 40 years but only during the months of late Nov. thru April.  Summer is fun time with other things.  It has been so much fun forever and still is.  This is the best hobby in the world because it allows the person to use all his skills and also learn new skills and now with computers it makes it so much easier to get new ideas from other hobbyists.  Hoping to get my act together and finish preparing my article for this magazine.
