Here are some pics of the first #10 I made....not the greatest but I am happy overall. And once it's weathered and in place I think it will look alright. Some more cleaning up is needed with some thing's. Drops have been attached and frog is wired, everything is all tucked underneath for the photo's.

Thanks Dan. I am going to be placing these very close to edge and for viewing purposes is why I added the details.....the $$$ add up but it looks great.

Thanks alot Malcolm. It's alot of work but the end result is just what I am after.

How about a bill of materials that went into the construction of the # 10?

Oh boy..well here is a list...qtys' are approximate.

65 ties
408 spikes
197 tie plates
1 #10 frog
2 code .148 guard rails
12 rail braces
2 throw bars
2 gauge plates
points
65" of code .148 steel rail

Cost....ooooo boy I haven't added it up yet, don't know that I want to... Smile
Hi Joe, yes I ordered them from Lou directly.

Ralph4014 the roadbed is Flexxbed.

Thanks Flanger, yes I have 3 #10's going in and the rest are going to be #8's. Yes there will be a space in the front where they are going. I was very pleased when I opened up the box from Lou and looked over these parts, I had to massage them a small amount to fit properly but that is normal and very easy to do...his parts are top notch.

Thanks Zak.

Very true Patrick....much cheaper....what are Atlas' now...$80 or so?...Crazy.

Thanks Chris, I am most definetly happy with the result. I am looking forward to getting them in place and weathered...and to start running some trains.

When something looks that good and will be out front for all to see over and over and over again and again, the cost is immaterial. ( I can say that cause I didn't pay for it, but you'll be glad you did what you did every time you look at that beauty! )

Great job!

Nice handiwork and thanks for the photo inspiration.
How did you isolate the points and what type of throw will you be using?
Thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt,
Thank you. The throw bars and gauge plates come in 2 pieces. They each were insolated with a heavy paper and good ole super glue, when it was set up I took a file to the excess until all was flush, I isolated the frog the same way. Works like a charm. I have not decided on throws yet.

Thank you avel and Tom I appreciate the kind words.

Thank you very much. That was my thought exactly, it will be up front for easy viewing so the expense of the extra details is worth it to me. I think for the #10's they come out to approx $50-$55 each. The ones that will be towards the back of the layout will not be as detailed.
