Gentlemen,

Just today I made a deal with Mark Boyce to acquire his 990 Legacy unit. I already have  one Legacy Base and Cab2 with a lot of my Legacy and TMCC Engines programed into it.

When the other Legacy unit from Mark arrives will I need to program all my Legacy/TMCC Engines into that Legacy Cab2 or will it automatically pick up the other Legacy Base and run all the engines programmed into it?

Further will I need to Program all my FTCC Switches into the other Cab2, or will they already respond from being programmed into the original Cab2 and Legacy Base.

I am also planning to use the new to me Legacy Base to keep the 2nd Cab2 Charged, however I will not connect the Base to my FasTrack thru out the new Train Room.

Some advise on all this technical engineering would be appreciated from MartyE and all the other Legacy Wizards.

Even if your intent is only to use it for charging (and you are aware enough to not hook it to the track), using the 2nd 990 in the same vicinity of the layout might end up as an interference issue.

Others will hopefully chime in.  The base transmitting through the home AC ground may interfere with the one you actually have hooked to the track.

Barry & Dave,

Thanks much, does this also apply to the programmed FTCC Switches, as far as not having to program them into the 2nd Cab2?

I did not realize the 2nd Legacy base might interfere with the original Base if it is only plugged in, and not attached to the tracks.  Dave thanks for warning me that this might happen.  If it does I will unplug it, and simply use the one Legacy base to charge both Cab2's.  The 993 must be able to be plugged into the same AC house Ground because there is no actual operational control unit in it's base.

Paul,

Thanks much, I appreciate the info.

Barry,

How do I know, and what is the latest upgrade for the Legacy unit?

Looks like I will be hitting MartyE up for another visit!  I have no idea how hard it is to upgrade the Legacy Packages.  The one coming back from the Lionel Repair shop will probably be upgraded to the latest level however.

Set the second Legacy base to a different channel, and use it as a charger. As Barry said all info is in the base, engines, switches, Tracks, Trains.

I had that thought, but isn't the channel setting just Remote <--> Base?  It's the Base <--> Layout signal I was (perhaps incorrectly) worrying about.
