Something Unusual on the layout....pictures!!

OK...I just finished this project today. I have to admit it is not an original idea from me but I was inspired by Jack C. Smith here on the forum. Some time back I had been wanting to build some kind of parking structure and then out of the blue Bill (Popsrr) started a thread about parking garages. Jack contributed pictures of his creation from a Korber power plant office building kitbashed into a parking garage. I was so impressed that I had in my mind I would copy his idea. Then, just a week or so ago, Paul (VaGolfer1950) posted on the for sale board the exact model Jack had built!! I scrambled to purchase it but missed out only to find out that Jack was the one that beat me to it and purchased it back from Paul!!! Big Grin....So, having purchased a Korber kit from Jack a month or so ago, I went to work this week and below are pictures of my rendition of "Jack's Garage". Please forgive the long winded story but I thought you perhaps would enjoy how this all happened...

Alan, you did a darn good job on the garage, it looks great. Fits in well on your layout. I really liked the garage I got from my good friend Jack, but just couldn't fit it in to my layout, even with the planned expansion it didn't go with the more rural small town look I model. Glad to see that everyone came out good on this.

A marvelous job, Alan, instantly recognizable as to its purpose. Those railings of yours are the perfect touch for making the whole effort so believable. Congratulations on such a skilled and clever use of the power-plant elements, and the building's placement w/in the cityscape and your use of the available space were masterful. The whole scene actually reminds me of a similarly sized parking garage that was near Gimbles in Pittsburgh, PA, for years.

Paul...thanks very much! The funny thing about all of this is that just a short time before you put your model up for sale, I had purchased the last office building kit from Jack. He realized at that time he had not saved one for himself so that he could create another model for his layout. LOL!! Anyway, I am glad that he was the guy that ended up getting his creation back from you. Like you said, everyone ended up happy!!

Alan, great job on the parking structure. The fencing and the parking sign look just right.

Don, what are those two buildings to the left of the one under construction. They look fantastic so unlike anything I've seen. Any straight on pictures of them or close-ups? Thanks.

Rusty...that is why when I first saw it, I really liked the design because of several I had seen in the Chicago downtown area...thanks!

Hey Alex...For you my friend, I will send the railroad's presidential train and provide you and Judy with a first class room at our best hotel!! Don't worry about parking...you will have your own Limo!!!

Bill...since your parking garage is on hold right now, I will make sure a few extra spaces are reserved for your railroad patrons!! Thanks for the positive comments!

Usually when I see a parking garage like that on the internet or the television there always seems to be a vehicle hanging out over one of the top railings. Smile

Must be better drivers in Arkansas. Big Grin

Are you and Lakeeta driving that white T-Bird up to St Charles in 2 weeks. How many are coming from your area. Looks like 5 couples from the Springfield area are going. Looking forward to seeing everyone again at Alex's on the 4th

I should have taken the pictures of the cars rolling off of the roof as I tried to position the building into place....so, you are correct, some of the folks on the roof made it to the ground level rather rapidly!! Wink

We are planning on going but the weather will be the deciding factor.

Alan, Sounds like you need trafic control spike barriers across the exits. Seriously, this is a beautiful garage that fits perfectly into your fantastic downtown. It just keeps getting better and better. Pat B.
