Sourcing powered trucks

I doubt you'll find one with both the motor and a reverse unit, you'll have to settle for the motor.

I look for stuff like K-Line power trucks for many of their cheaper products, they have the motor in the truck.  I know that Lee Willis bought a bunch of the new Williams 44-ton scale locomotives and took those power trucks for Streets vehicles, but that's pretty expensive.

Here's the K-Line truck I'm talking about.

Lionel used that truck on early RS-3 locomotives.  I do not have numbers but the roars were Soo Line and ATSFE.

I have an old Lionelk RS-3 E-L with those trucks.  A dog.  Stops on a dime when power is cut.  Never use it.

I guess since you never run the RS-3, you have two candidate power trucks.

There should be plenty of Kline Alcos and S 1's available at a good price. Those engines had a can motor built in the truck. You might be able to use the direction control board as well.

You may want compare the ride height of locomotives equipped with those trucks to what you're proposing to build. Last time I checked, road locomotive trucks were substantially bigger than anything you'd find under the typical steeplecab. (same goes for MTH subway/trolley trucks)

I've been looking around for some sort of low-floor power truck that I could use to power one of those "City Liner" toy LRV's. Closest thing I could find without involving Q-Car products came up just short of 'O' scale.

There are power trucks from K-Line's trolleys or speeders that might be a better option. Recent SuperStreets vehicles with adjustable wheelbases are another possibility, and I was told at this past York that the power trucks for the WBB 44-tonner may also become available as parts independent of the rest of the loco.

I'd love to be able to buy the Williams 44-ton power trucks as a separate part, I have several neat uses for those.
