Ben that's a really nice display setup!!!

Dewey I really admire the work you did so far to your layout.

It's starting to look a lot like Greensboro in the 1930 -40's!!

Roger I know I keep saying it but I'm planning to come up in April and I'm bringing my Kanawha and SD45'S with me.

Great photo's guy's hope I post more Southern stuff once I move into my new houses in July.

Very nice collection of Southern Steam Engines.  I like how you displayed HO versions of Southern Tennessean and PS4 in front of O'Gauge Models.  I thought about getting Weaver's Southern Tennessean for my own collection, but the prices I have seen on the bay recently have been way too high for me...$2500.
Thanks for sharing your photos.

Thanks Ken!

It's completely ridiculous what people on eBay try to get for the Weaver Tennessean these days. Just because once one got caught in a bidding war and went for $2000+, now everyone thinks it's overly rare. That engine should really only go for about $800. But it really is a beautiful engine and quite accurate. However I'd still like to find the two rail O scale version.

Those FP's are certainly pretty Lionlman!

Can you post a photo of the pilot from the side?  Reason I ask is I recently picked up a MTH model of their F3 and am curious about the large 'gap' between the pilot and the front truck - almost looks like a steam engine's 'cowcatcher' sticking out there. Our Lionel Santa Fe F3 and Atlas GM&O have much larger pilots that wrap all the way around to the truck. Is this correct?  Looks odd to me...

Thanks for posting the FP7s pics!  They turned out well overall, but I had not seen how the final paint scheme turned out on the Southern version.  What do you think of the operating characteristics?  I love my 2 rail PRR ones.  If you don't plan on using the front coupler for switching, you can order a 2 rail pilot and a Kadee coupler from 3rd rail for the front.  That really changes the look of the front of the model and allows for the 0-54 radius.

Sean, a couple off years ago I and my wife went to Rail Days at the NC Transportation museum in Spencer.  It was a great time and a wonderful event.    It was nice we got to ride on several trains and they had quite a few modelers set up as well.  You could even ride the turntable if you wanted to. Do you know when they will be hosting that event again.

Sadly Rail Days is no more. The think the powers to be at the Museum didn't want people to think the NCTM was Train Museum and that is was more of a Transportation Museum. I loved going to Rail Days it was a really good time to come out and ride all the trains and to visit the train show. Now the NCTM is only focused on doing special events . I hope they will change their minds in the future and bring back Rail Days.

It is as Sean says plus their budget got stomped almost flat by the legislature in successive years.

The huge Backshop is the primary museum site other than trains and will feature all forms of transportation from dugout canoes and river rafts to modern airships. One of Piedmont Airlines original DC-3s will hang from the ceiling.

Ken, there is a "Streamliner" event scheduled here for the end of May.  Check it out on the museum's website.

OK guys - this makes 8 postings before this one without a photo.  The OP stipulated that this was a PHOTO thread. Let's tighten up

Southern E6 No 2800 heads up a short streamliner while N&W's massive Class A lumbers along overhead through the colorful Appalachian Mtns...

I have an Atlas Trainman Southern Rwy 52' gondola (#61327) that came with solid-bearing trucks.  Is this correct or should the car have roller-bearing trucks? (can't find a photo of this type gondola)

I found a diagram (#62) of this type truck in the Southern Rwy Historical Society archives.

It mentions the use of Barber trucks, but they made both solid and roller bearing.  The diagram has a date of 1953, so that could indicate use of the solid-bearing trucks.

Here are some pictures of my new MTH Premier Queen and Crescent Limited.  Since this engine came out over year ago, I have been on the fence whether to purchase it.  I have the MTH Premier Crescent Limited with Protosounds 2, so I was unsure if I wanted another Ps-4.  Last week I finally decided to buy it from a dealer.   I like passenger station sounds on MTH engines.  I was concerned that MTH would use the same cities, New York, Washington, Greensboro etc, and train number 38 as with the Crescent Limited.  However they did not.  They used the train number 43 (southbound train number for the Queen and Crescent Limited) and the correct cities…Cincinnati, Birmingham, etc.  This is my 1st Protosounds 3 steam engine and the sound is very clear too…better than my Protosounds 2 engine which has more static sound.  Overall, I am pleased with this engine.  Ken

Thanks Dewey.  Very nice picture!  I am glad MTH got the engine somewhat close except they are caught up into painting the roof of the Cab red!  I wish they painted it black as it is in your picture.  Do you know if the Queens & Crescent Limited ever went through Atlanta?   Ken

I like your new 50' Southern Boxcar.  Looks like MTH left many of details on it like the past Premier Version.  I was planning on getting one, but then I came across the 2 of Premier versions from years past this summer and purchased them instead.  Here are mine...  Ken
