To all TCA members and families on Tour #28 or those just visiting the Science Center's Miniature RR and Village, on Saturday July 1, I will be answering questions and showing some of the 105 working animations on our 85' x 30' layout on the second floor, before and after your behind the scenes tour.

Charge your phones for pictures and get ready for our 3.5 minute day and 3.5 minute night, yes we have a fast clock of a 7 minute day.  Along one wall you will see some archive equipment which Lionel has lent us.

I'll be wearing a black Lionel shirt and red vest with RR pins.  Hope to see you on Saturday July 1.

Can't make the convention, I hope the TCA is going to record the presentations and make them available to the membership.

The Ft. Pitt Division has hired a professional videographer to record the seminars, assuming permission is granted from the presenter(s).

I'm perfectly fine with them recording my Modern Era Lionel talk, but we've asked that they not record the Toy Train Paper & Memorabilia Group meeting.  We have a no cameras/no video recording policy due the ease in which the paper items people bring for show-and-tell could be duplicated.

I'm not sure what the eventual destination will be for the videos, but I bet they'll turn-up somewhere.

I'd like to invite any and all TCA Convention-goers to join us on Thursday morning,  June 29th, from 10:00am to Noon for a gathering of the Toy Train Paper & Memorabilia Group (TTP&M). We've been meeting at York for over 20 years, but with the invitation from the Ft. Pitt convention crew, we're taking our show on the road to Pittsburgh!

So what kind of group are we? In short, if something is toy train-related but NOT a toy train, that's us! Historical paper and catalogs, advertising, promotional items, vintage photography, factory artifacts, displays and the like from all manufacturers and eras are usually represented. More info about the group can be found here: http://www.jlmtrains.com/ttp&m.htm.

Our meetings are extremely informal in nature, and consist primarily of "show-and-tell." Have a favorite piece to share? Need info on something you found? Bring it along -- there's a good chance someone in the crowd can help fill in the gaps. Whether you're new to paper and memorabilia collecting or a seasoned pro, I can guarantee you'll see things at our gatherings you've never seen before -- and maybe never will again.

We're thinking that the crowd at the convention might be a bit different from what we'd normally see at York, so we're looking forward to seeing our regulars as well as new faces in Pittsburgh.

As always, e-mail me at papertrw@aol.com if you have any questions. Thanks!

Todd

Here's the blurb for my "Collecting Modern Lionel" talk, scheduled for Friday, June 30 from 2:00 to 2:45pm at the TCA Convention in Pittsburgh:

"Contrary to popular opinion, collecting didn't stop with trains last made in 1969! Modern maven Todd Wagner talks about Lionel collecting in the "Modern Era" with an emphasis on the General Mills/MPC period from 1970 through 1985. Topics include the postwar transition from New Jersey to Michigan, debunking myths from the early years, select production variations, and items within the time period that are ripe for additional study. Unlike some categories, Modern Era collecting does not need to break the bank, and interesting items can be found at almost any train meet. Plenty of examples will be displayed, including some one-of-a-kind items never previously shown publicly."

There's not much more I can add to that, so I'll just say I'm looking forward to seeing old friends and new!

Wish we could make it but scheduling it on the Fourth of July weekend made it a no go.
