Speeder ERR Upgrade question

I had the same problem on a Cruise Commander and finally chalked it up to the half wave lighting output in command.  I just hooked the flashing LED's to track output with diode and resistor.  They flash continuously which is what I think you want also.

I think you may be on to something.  I went back to the site where I bought the animated LEDs and they seem to indicate that it requires pure DC power.  For grins, I made a quick bridge rectifier out of 4 diodes.  Connected to my transformer, added a resistor and my LED now flashes from track power.  So I guess that would work.  But I am wondering if the half wave power from the mini commander can be converted to pure DC power.  I was reading online that the addition of a cap across the leads of the LED could clean up the half wave power.  The question would then be, what size cap do I try.  Adding a cap to the lighting output would be easier than adding a full bridge.  The speeder does not have a lot of room, so less components is preferred.

I add a 1uf NP cap to all LEDS on ERR installs.

The flashing LED requires filtered DC, so a diode and a 22uf or larger cap will make it flash.  Of course, from the incandescent outputs, you'll need a dropping resistor.  If you truly have half-wave power, you can omit the diode.

Thanks John.  I tied the incandescent outputs together for the cab light, using diodes so the light stays lit for forward and reverse.  I have a 470 ohm resistor tied to the LED.  The cab light is working well.  I will add a cap to the flasher along with its resistor.

Put the diode and cap across the light output, and the resistor in series with the LED past the diode and cap.  That will yield the best performance.
