I'm sure I'm not the first person to think of this.  But in my search on the forum, I could not find anything that addressed this, so I thought I'd share.

I'm working on this kitbash/scratch build caboose project and it's been very difficult for me.  I'm painting it in Chessie Colors, so I have been masking and painting a lot.

I got to the steps and there is an orange stripe on each step.  4 stripes per step x 4 stairs = a lot of small masking.  That or crooked painted lines.

Then I thought, what if I use decals?  But spend $15 on a decal sheet for stripes that may or may not match my paint?  No, I could just make my own.  I used to think home made decals were just for special graphics you could not get anywhere else.  But why not for something a simple as stripes?

Using some scrap decal paper from another project, I simply cut off a small section and spray painted it with the same paint I used for the caboose.  No need to clear coat, like I do with printer decals.  The paint does not come off in water.

Then cut small stripes with a paper cutter.  Instant custom decal.

I hope I can wrap this project up soon.  It's been many many slow hours.

Here is a sneak peak.

Have Fun! Ron
