Here is my latest conversion of Lionel Ready to Play sets converted from #2 gauge to STD Gauge. This is a combination of 2 NYC freight sets. Sorry about the light. If I waited much longer for some shade it will be about 105 degrees.

Steve: NICE, again, but I am starting to see a pattern here....
Super cool Steve. How did you do it?
Well done, Steve!

Pretty easy project. You have to remove the wheel sets and tap each side of the axle in about 3/32” with a punch. Then reassemble. The truck side frames have enough clearance to allow for the extra width. Most of them require removing the bodies to get to the trucks but it’s pretty straight forward and easy. The only one that’s being a challenge it the Hogwarts tender. It has frame mounted wheels and not trucks. There is not enough room to widen the wheels without cutting. I’ll get there with it.

That’s pretty awesome!!
Thanks guys. These are fun, inexpensive projects the you don't mind turning the remotes over to kids.
I have modified 6 sets so far, one is a custom Halloween set.

Well done. Great idea for a safe, low cost way to entertain kids. In the video, I like where you can see the shadow of Godzilla as he approaches the city.
When you regauge the wheel sets, how do you manage to do both sides evenly? Or does it even matter?
I am going to do a Christmas set in a few days. I’ll try and take some pictures/video of what I do.

Jeff has actually been sharing these videos with Loren at Lionel.

I use a wheel puller and about one full turn on the puller works well. Now you can measure with a depth gauge how far the axle is now slightly inset in the wheel, but after a few I can eyeball what fits. Also the production is not super consistent and the wheels/axle ride on a pair of bearing/bushings that set into the truck so there is room for slight variances.
