YVT GE Steeplecab #298 100th Anniversary

Yakima Valley Trolley's will be holding a 100th Anniversary event for Steeplecab #298 this Saturday.

The Steeple and at least one Porto Trolley will be running on Pine St adjacent to the YVT Trolley Barn.  For $50 you can ride on the Steeplecab!

Check their Twitter or website for details.

From YVT Website:

Steeplecab electric locomotive #298 was built brand new for the Yakima Valley Transportation Company by the General Electric Company in September of 1922. It served the railroad as their primary locomotive for 63 years until the railroad ceased freight operations in 1985.

While 298 is operable today, one of its motors is in need of rebuilding, and that alone is estimated at $25,000 to $35,000. We are raising funds to repair the motor so that the 298 will once again be able to pull freight cars up Pine Street and to Selah.

When I was a kid this locomotive was roaming the city streets hauling apples and other tree fruit.
