These are merely suggestions to help improve this forum and the work the moderators do.

1. If you sell everything, just delete your post instead of adding "SOLD" in the subject line. It is is in the same drop down menu as "EDIT". That will move one more member's post to the first page and help out the moderator so he doesn't have to do the same thing.

2. If you have multiple items, delete the description and the picture. It's just good housekeeping and saves reading a lengthy description only to find out it's sold.

3. Put "FOR SALE" or similar in the topic line. That just helps identify your post.

4. Make sure you have some kind of contact info in your Profile Page.

5. If you repost your topic, delete the old one. That also moves the other posts up a notch.

For example, Allan Miller put up a number of engines for sale 8 hours ago. He is down to two left, that is all that is in his post and he has edited his title to that effect. I'm sure that his post will be gone when he sells the last two.

Thanks to everyone who already does this, and thanks to all for reading.

good post,john...might i suggest if the buyer is paying shipping on something your selling, it would be great if the seller would include a location ,so we have a rough idea for shipping costs....i've had to back out of 2 deals recently[ dont like doing that ] because shipping was more than the train item cost.....put a location ....zipcode/ state works good in your ad......this should be required in profiles to begin with...along with contact info...

I agree with points 1 and 2. Point 3 is really not necessary. If you are looking at the "For Sale or Trade" forum I think it is a given that everything there is for sale or trade. Very few people actually want to trade anything so unless you are specifically wanting to trade only, I wouldn't bother posting that the item is for sale. Same goes for "Wanted to Buy" forum. If you are posting there you want to buy something. As far as point one is concerned, the old forum rules said to edit the title so the mods would know to delete the post. Most people probably don't know that if no one has replied to your post, you can delete it. Once a post has a reply the mods have to delete it. Since replies are no longer allowed in the For Sale forum the OP can delete it his or herself.

Yes, but point 3 is very useful for those of us that browse the forum by scrolling past the "Recent Posts" list to the right of the screen(on a PC Web browser).  I pretty much almost never go into all the various sub-forums anymore since we have so many of them.

As simple "F/S", "WTB" or "F/S or Trade" is a great benefit.

Don't do this unless you want folks other than our membership to know where you live, etc.  You can share this with the membership within your profile without outside folks seeing it...  By the way, all profiles are being reviewed and those without verifiable information in them...in other words, correct addresses and names that are associated with those addresses,  will be put on temporary ban until the profile is updated with info that at least the admins can verify.  It is up to the member if they want to share that information with the membership however....  You will be notified if your profile has been reviewed and tagged for an update....

I agree with Mr Berger on the location info.

When I see something that I’m really interested in and if it within 100 maybe miles of me,I would prefer to pick it up and give the seller cash. This way I don’t have to sweat the carrier damaging it.

Also if you don’t want me at your house...fine I’ll meet you somewhere of your choosing.

I operate the same. I like the side bar of recent posts

I would also suggest if you re-up your F/S thread after 7 days...delete the original.  It slows things down and takes up space.  No need to see 2 ads of the same basic post if you do a search for a specific item #.

Also, as was suggested..if you lower prices or change something update the title.  A prospective buyer might not look at your add again if they think you re-upped without lowering the price.  I think this one would help sell lots more trains!

I would like to state that I use the buy/sell forum as a respository for seeing about how much stuff is worth.  I find it handy to be able to look at older posts where stuff as sold and see how much it sold for.   Gets me a good idea on the worth of items.

Maybe move the sold posts to a new subforum called Sold?  That way we can research the value of items that actually were sold.

Sellers are supposed to delete their original F/S post when they "re-up" it.  If we get an alert that there are two for sale posts that are the same, then both may be deleted...

Sorry...not going to happen.  If you all realized how much time OGR invests in the F/S and sold posts, you would understand by adding the time it would take to filter through all of the for sale posts (some are not clear as to whether they have been sold) would be a full time job.  When an item is sold, we ask that the seller delete the post....  If we see or get an alert that an item is sold, then it gets deleted.  Helps with the bandwidth for which we pay.  If we add more, then someone is going to have to pay for it....perhaps we need to charge a fee to sell items on the forum....   Yeah, I already know what kind of reaction that will get so please don't comment...I am just trying to get across the point that our F/S forum is a great place to sell and is free...we don't need to complicate it further as that adds costs that could eventually be past on to the membership.
