Howard....I LOVE the toy like look and the "fun" factor that your layout exhibits. Many of us, including myself, forget about this side of the hobby.

Thank you for reminding me that this is what it was all about "once upon a time".

Nice pics so far!

I have been working on customizing and weathering a Lionel coal ramp to make it look more realistic.  The base and pylons are pretty much done.  I need to figure out how to engineer new side walkways and railings, among other things.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Some good stuff guys! My next scenery project is a water project. This area will be modeled after an area where I use to frequent.  In my high school days we would we would load up a keg, friends, & girls and head to the old railroad bed. If it was summer we would not hesitate to jump in a " strippin pit" or open pit mine that has filled with water in order to cool off.  Those were some fun days!

To complete the project I plan on using Envirotex. I am not sure how it will take to the contours of the landscape.

Thanks, Sean. I knew I had seen it before but I coudn't remember for sure. It looks as bad as I thought.   Your transition is exceptional!

GEF, very well done scene! I like that.

Envirotex will fill every nook and cranny, make sure you have no holes where it can leak out.  It also sets up as smooth as glass. If you're not looking for a smooth finish you'll have to work on it.

Beautiful work as always, guys.

Sean:

Your transformation of the Coal Ramp is spectacular. I am a real fan of efforts to make the best of tinplate accessories.   Although the "rules" of my layout forbid permanent modifications of accessories, I always try to present them in the best possible light.  Here's what I did with my ramp:

Still slowly working the difficult to reach corners of my 9x16 round-the-room operation. Positioning some structures built for for my Textile Mill site by Joe Fauty of Model Structures. Customized Kober buildings and modified Ameri-Towne fronts. Much work and detailing to be done yet. Smokestack by Harry Hieke.

My other unfinished corner is the Frick Sawmill and homemade Lumber Shed.

Nice work everybody as usual!

GEF......That swimmin' hole is going to really look good., I'm looking forward to seeing it filled with water. Very nice detail around it, I did a lot of swimming at old rock quarries when I was a kid as well.

Bill is right about adding the ripples, a third way, the way I've always done it, is right before the resin sets, which may take 8 hours, more or less, depending on heat and humidity, is to take a screwdriver and prod it. Keep prodding until the ripples set.

I know this sounds time consuming, but you don't have to stand there for 8 hours, more or less, waiting.  Come back and check on it. I guess the only advantage to doing it that way is that the ripples are a part of the "water" and not a facade.
