#7 passing Dillman's Farm

Nice work Guys,

Here is a new scene I have been working on.  This is in a corner of the payout, it is a small junk dealer.  The structures are a combination of the Korber Models Quonset hut, and the Bars Mills Bulls salvage kit.

Been wanting to make a crossing shanty that was less "tin plate toy-like" but not quite "rivet-counter perfect"...

Here are most of the raw pieces made from my favorite building materials...cardboard, card stock, cereal box material, manila folder, matchsticks, etc...the crossing guard figurine is from a dollar store construction set...he'll get a paint job as well...

Very nice job on your scene. I really like it.

Kitbashed a Gantry Crane I want to install near the roundhouse.  Used the following parts to make this: 

• left over Plasticville Signal bridge upright support parts from a recent Signal Bridge Expansion,
• a $2.00 HO Deck Girder Bridge, 
• a $3.00 HO Bobber Caboose frame,
• a $5.00 White Metal Winch Kit from Crow River,
• and a spare Lionel crane hook I had laying around.    

Finished all six brick kilns.

I was a little jealous the night me and Mom, and my sisters picked up the new Impala convertible for my oldest big sister'... Another few years, I'll have my own too.....  

Yes sir, I'm sure.  This is the one I want'...                                                                                     

And just one more finial once over look before driving away while Sis signs the paperwork'..

Lots of action on the lot'..

Chris A, Many thanks for posting your kitbash crane. Appreciate the parts list. I did similar crane for my RIP track next to roundhouse. Thanks to your parts list I can go back and fix the lifting mechanics to match yours. Hope you won't mind.

Tom,  by all means take advantage of the list, that's why I put it up there.....  I kept seeing these parts at local train shows wanting to do something like this.   The small 4 wheel HO Bobber caboose closed the deal, once I found that, I figured I could locate a decent winch... 

The winch kit from Crow River is the #044,  the size works perfectly with the HO Caboose frame.   Instead of chain,  I found some pretty cool "Chinese Knotting cord" at one of the local craft stores.... It's  8mm, it's like miniature parachute cord, cool stuff doesn't fray and it takes india ink alcohol wash.

A mad scramble to make the deadline for the Sunday Showcase.  Always a pleasure to see such wonderful work here and I am humbled to add my scenes to the case.  First shot is of my newly "finished" country store on the [p]layout, followed by a few updates as I've completed two sides of a new structure I'm trying out a new weathering angle on.  

Many thanks to all who take the time to describe builds, upload pics, and share opinions here on the scenic side of the forum.  Always a delightful and informative experience! 

I posted these over on the, "What did you do on your layout today?" thread.  I totally forgot about "Sunday Scenic Showcase".  I hope you guys don't mind the double post.

I used the Crow River winch kit, for a turntable drive.  Beautiful work thanks for posting.  

Mike CT:   That's a great idea,  I have a Bowser TT that I have upgraded over the years, but I really like the idea of using the same winch kit to simulate the table drive....

Question:   Where did you find that green colored motor ?  Is that a Crow River detail part or some other supplier's part ?

Not sure. I'd check Crow River first.  There is a gear on the end of the motor shaft that matches the one large cog wheel.  It may have been from BTS.  Bill's Train Shop, I got a lot of detail parts there also.  http://www.btsrr.com/

Great cranes. Clever use of available materials!

I've got a design for a robust crane for the future engine house. I went on line and found real gantry and adjusted the size to fit the space. It would fabricated out of styrene.
