I built this model of the office of the Chromium Process Company for my 10’-by-5’ layout from a McCabe Lumber Company Office kit by BTS. I have built several BTS kits and find them to be of very high quality. This is a companion building to my scratch-built model of the Chromium Process Company factory. The real Chromium Process Company was an industrial operation in Shelton, Connecticut within feet of the New Haven Railroad.

The first photo shows the kit parts. Second photo shows the assembled walls. I swapped the positions of the two long walls so that the staircase would be fully visible from the front of the layout. In the third photo, the window frames have been assembled and installed, exterior trim added, as have window glazing, blinds, and a 1st-floor interior wall. I apply acrylic colors by brush and avoid solvent-based paints. Fourth photo shows the assembled staircase and 2nd floor interior walls. The next two photos show the completed structure before placement on the layout. The roof shingles are paper strips. The last two photos show it on the layout. They also show partial views of my adjacent model of the Chromium Process Company factory building (same color scheme) and the company’s guard shack, with a fellow standing in the doorway. A steep driveway leads up from factory level along the river to street level.

               VERY NICE ITEMS GUYS!

More progress this week. I cut out all 6 white LED lights as I was not happy with the look. I am thinking of using passenger car strip lighting. One other final detail will be added to finish off the project next week as well.

This build was intended to  hide and cover the track circle at the end of the new layout. I always liked this tollbooth since I was 5 and felt it had some potential in adding additional features. My original 1960's one Dad bought in the Two Guys NJ Store got crushed on our move to Florida in 72.

The Hallmark Christmas tree truck was a good size for the "S" Scale toll and distance view.

I did remove the wheels and added a lift kit to it for better height.
