Walter - the numbers will be the same as the first run and I unfortunately need to dig mine out of the closet they are currently in.  Being 2 rail which I don't have a layout for currently they are at the bottom.  Luckily it is a long weekend and I don't have an immediate family member with a birthday for the first time in the last two weekends to get to them.

I seem to recall there was an issue with the road numbers selected for the SP blackwidow units in the first run. The GP9’s were modeled as freight units but I think some of the road numbers were for units built for passenger service.
Will this be corrected to have accurate road numbers for the 2nd run? Or did I remember incorrectly?

A lot of items to respond to on this project and that is understood.  To summarize a few things:

  • All units will have start in the same direction which will be short hood forward.  Changing that adds a level of complexity that the factory is not in a position to work with for the total number of units this affects.
  • Details will largely stay the same between runs with the exception of the missing handrail on some of the units.
  • I have requested the most recent set of painting diagrams for a thorough markup prior to production.  Graphics can be corrected where required.  I have a running list of items and if you would like to submit input, my email address is in my profile.
  • There is time to make these corrections as FA research is the next task before doing QA/QC on 2nd run Geep 7/9s.

It is always the goal to continuing to improve the product, but on a rerun the options are somewhat limited to what is listed above.

If there are road names that anyone wants to see added, it does take 20 units to make that happen and I'm sure Scott would be open to it, but I cannot promise anything.

Hope that helps and doesn't add more confusion!

Would anyone be interested in/is it possible to do PRR No. 7048? It's the GP9 on static display at the Horseshoe Curve. I've currently ordered the 3rd rail undecorated GP9 with the intention to paint this.

I do not have any Good photos taken by me (Below: Screenshot from old video I shot). But you can see it at this link: https://www.railpictures.net/photo/778755/

Walter - I checked mine today and the road numbers I have are:

  • 1521
  • 1524
  • 1529
  • ....1529 again....

I ordered all 4 road numbers but got road number 3 twice.  It happens and I should have checked more closely when they arrived.  All my 2 rail purchases are for a future layout, so I don't get them out of the box nearly as often as I should!

I will likely just renumber my duplicate as I already have the decals somewhere.

In the meantime, I will be reviewing the last run painting diagrams in detail within the next month and can get that last number off the drawings.  It will be in the 1530-1532 range.  Likely not 1532 as you know all too well that it was one of the GP7Ps to go for a swim in Newark Bay to be rebuilt as a GP9 in 1958.

Hopefully Scott will update the wheel size to the correct 40" diameter if he does a second, run rather than continue using the incorrect undersized 36" wheels that the first run had.  It would also be good if Scott would offer to sell correct 40" wheels to retrofit first run locomotives for those who want them.

Also, the CB&Q Blackbirds of the first run had the same slogan on both sides of the locomotives, which is incorrect and hopefully that will be corrected in a second run, if these are offered again.

Jonathan...would prefer using any other number such as 1520, 1522 or 1527 rather than 1531 or 1532 if possible. When rebuilt as 1531-1532 there were some body changes and bell was moved from short hood end to long hood end on 1531-1532 only.  This way there would be no duplication of any CNJ roadnumbers comparing to Atlas and MTH versions already manufactured.

Changing my initial order to become all 4 of the rerun numbers.

Thanks.

Walter

I’d be nice to see a rerun of FTs and Alco PAs. Those were incredibly successful in terms of accuracy.

I’d love to see either one !!!  The PAs have had two runs (2018, 2019) and the FTs only one run (2014). I Might Think after 8 years, there Could be decent demand for another FT run. I’d also love to see the E8s (2017) have a second run too.
My rerun preference order would be FT first, then E8, then PA.

Yes, E8s /E9s were sweet! I did some upgrades on my E9, but nothing major. I wished the red stripes around the headlight respected the illusory contour around the casing. But sadly this was missed by the reviewers. I did repaint the fuel tank, skirts, and re did the entire pilot.

This one is on my “to be acquired” punch list  !!!  I like your pilot details and fuel tank repaint.

Ummm...you are going to need more than paint for that GP9.

1]There is a paper air filter box that you would have to scratchbuild and add in front of the dynamic brake

2] if you are ordering the Undecorated GP9, VERIFY, this unit will be a phase1 or phase2. The Sunset GP9's in the FIRST run were phase 3 which has 3 48" fans instead of the 2 pairs of 36" fans and the 48" dynamic break fan.

3] finally you will have to modify the brass fuel tank skirt. The HSC GP9 does NOT have a full skirt either.

Totally unrelated to the Sunset model, but I photographed this GMD CN GP7 on display in Toronto this May.  Check out those really interesting trucks.

Flexicoil trucks to reduce weight for use in lighter rail, especially in Alberta during grain harvest season.

I love this engine and always made a point to swing by it during my bike rides.

One of the QC items to be corrected will be road numbers as well as painting errors on the first run.

Yes, this PRR one has the wrong number as PRR only had 3 in this configuration and Sunset did 4 numbers.  However, I'm happy with the model overall as it ran on the NY&LB and on the PRSL in passenger service.  These photos were shot with my DSLR and show the detail a little better than the cell phone images of one of my CNJ ones.

But the big question is how to rid of the air tanks by the fuel tank and add the equipment box in its place?
