SW and NW engines at York

Please clarify further.

A couple of things. "Good Buy" is subjective. Several years ago I got a great deal on a NIB Lionel N&W A @ $750. Exactly what I wanted, at a price I was willing to pay. There could have been 100 guys before me that passed it up. Have I seen switchers @York? Yup. But I wasn't shopping for one. I can tell you this, in general you'll be hard pressed to find better prices anywhere. And, if the price is $X, you can always make an offer. The worst the seller will do is say "no".

Beyond that, there are a variety of manufacturers that have offered SW and NW switchers through the years. As Tinplate Art mentioned, more specificity will be invaluable in assisting in your search. Do you have a manufacturer, livery, new/used, cab number, or control system type (Conventional, TMCC, Legacy, DCS) in mind? 

One great thing about the York meet, if you want it you can probably find it. Every time I have attended, I have come home with at least one "Great Deal".

If you are truly looking, a post to the Want to Buy forum right here may be productive. Another option, peruse the sponsor list right here on the OGR Forum. I checked out a couple and put in a search for "NW (and SW) Switcher". There's a bunch to choose from.

I am looking for some Lionel Post War SW and NW. I am planning on building a Industrial layout separate section of for my younger son. This will have 497 and 97 coal loaders and I need the SW and NW to move the freight cars from one to the other accessory.

Thanks for the reply. I building my layout currently when I have the time. As I said above this would be for my younger son and guests to try running a simple industrial layout. Nothing fancy just to give them experience how to run an industrial section  and  PW period engine with an e-Unit on it would do the trick.

Based upon this feedback, I would suggest looking at a Lionel Lionchief Plus NW2 switcher. You can run this with a free app on your smart phone. It gives you control of bell/whistle, front/rear couplers, fwd/rev control, and speed.  I'm 99% sure you'd have no problem finding one of these at the TCA meet at York.

If you really are set on a conventional locomotive w/ an E unit, you can't go wrong with a Williams by Bachmann NW2. Probably your best bang for the buck for a new engine.

I've seen several postwar versions in the member halls at York along with their modern counterparts.  Only you can determine if it's worth making the trip from Ct.  If you're able to,  I highly recommend at least 1 York trip in your lifetime.

If they do, just rewire the motors in series and they will run much slower.

You really have to narrow it down. Command or conventional? I have a Williams NW2 with TBII I paid 35 bucks for online. Then added an ERR Cruise lite for another 35 bucks ( introductory price a few years ago) . Not sure how far you are from York but that might not even cover the gas.
