It's #SwitcherSaturday Time!!!!

Lots of us out there love switchers (shifters, docksiders, yard goats, critters, etc.), so lets keep #SwitcherSaturday (a.k.a. SWSAT) rolling!

A special thanks to Tom @MNCW for running the SWSAT show again last week!
If you missed it (like I did, again) you should really go take a look!

My picture this week is of the three switchers I'm bringing to the US Postal Museum tomorrow (Sunday) to run on
the Rappahannock Model Railroaders' club modular layout. The museum is in Washington DC and they invited the club there to set up the layout and run trains for the weekend.  I'm looking foward to going tomorrow and running these switchers around the layout.

I was looking through all the items I packed and thought it interesting that I had almost no Lionel or MTH stuff in the box, just 2 K-Line Switchers, the Atlas Switcher, and a bunch of other random K-Line, Weaver, and other "non-big 2" stuff.  I'll take plenty of pictures for next week's SWSAT.

I hope everyone has a great weekend, have some switcher fun and when you get a chance - please post some switcher stuff here!

All the best...Rich Murnane

p.s. Miss the post on Saturday? NO BIG DEAL, just keep posting pictures of your favorites until the next #SwitcherSaturday

Rich,

Don't forget to bring an RPO car to run at the USPS Postal Museum - in addition to those three nice switchers.

Photos taken at the Steaming Tender restaurant in Palmer, Massachusetts on April 28, 2018. The main line was that of the Boston & Albany Railroad which became a subsidiary of the New York Central in 1900. The station was built in 1884. Palmer was known as the “Town of Seven Railroads.” A track diamond is visible from the platform.

Happy Switcher Saturday everyone!

My contribution is from "Across the Pond," since there is some big Royal event going on, according to my wife and every news station in the US.

Here are a few pictures from Northern England of the Sand Hutton Light Railway, a narrow gauge line that served the estate of Sir Robert Walker. Originally started as a 15-inch line, it was later converted to 1ft 6in. Eventually, the line was expanded and served a brickworks and handled agricultural produce from the farms on the estate.

Here are details of this line:

First, here is the area:

Here (below) is one of the the four (some say there were only 3) Hunslet locomotives along with the lone passenger coach seen in the 1920's-30's. The coach, which seated 30, had an observation platform and was considered oversized for a narrow gauge railway. Tea is now being served in the coach by Miss Batty, daughter of one of the engineers.

All of the Hunslet locomotives were scrapped in 1932 when the line closed.

Say what?

The city/territory I ran engines over daily (Fort Smith, AR) until recently (retired) had FOUR crossing diamonds that I can count off the cuff.

They're quite common. In a city such as Kansas City alone would be hundreds of crossing diamonds, I would think.

Perhaps I've misunderstood what you're saying.

I read the "eight diamonds" statement when we were at the Palmer, MA station. Perhaps it was incorrect. My apologies if so. Will try to corroborate.

Note: Have been unable to verify on-line my statement about the Palmer track diamond. Removed it from my original post.

Ah, perhaps at one time there was a crossing situation at that location that required 8 crossing diamonds. This would be the case if a double track main was crossed by two other double track mains.

In that case, it would indeed be sort of rare, I would think?

We shall never know!

Hey guys, great fun so far today, here's a picture of the RMR club layout at the museum, I'll be there tomorrow running those switchers, but I don't think I have a RPO car, next year I'll have to remedy that!

Image may contain: one or more people and outdoor

I'll follow up tomorrow with some more pictures, have a great rest of your weekend....Rich
