It's Switcher Saturday Time!!!!

Lots of us out there love switchers (shifters, docksiders, yard goats, critters, etc.), so lets keep #SwitcherSaturday (a.k.a. SWSAT) rolling!

If you missed last week's SWSAT, you should go take a look, there was some great stuff posted!
https://ogrforum.ogaugerr.com/...rday-2019-january-12

This week I don't have any new pictures for you guys yet, but I'm heading to the Greenberg Train Show in Richmond Virginia, so I'll take some pics of Switchers I see there.

Here's an old picture we've seen here on SWSAT a couple times, still one of my favorites.
"Troy Union Railroad crossing guard John Moriarity and New York Central switch engine during snowstorm, Troy, New York, March 1955"

Enjoy your weekend and when you get a chance - please post some switcher stuff here!

You know the rules:

1. if it's related to switchers (model switchers, prototypes, critters, switching yards, switching layouts) - we want to see it! Videos, Pics, Stories (true or fictional), poems, whatever!

2. if you miss the post on Saturday? NO BIG DEAL, just keep posting pictures of your favorites until the next #SwitcherSaturday

3. keep it friendly

All the best...Rich Murnane

Happy Switcher Saturday everyone!

Rich, thanks for starting us up and for that classic railroad photo.

My contribution is one of my new #228 prewar Pennsy switchers getting ready for the wintery mix we should be getting later today.

Tom

Next Sunday is the Toy & Train Show at the Westchester County Center in White Plains, NY. Weather permitting, I should be there with fellow OGR member "Fireman" Joe Krasko.

New Republic switcher doing what it was made for, shoving through the thaw shed to the dumper.

On my way in to work yesterday the loco was running light, on track right by the road entrance to the plant.  I know they are remote controlled, but it’s still unnerving to see a full size locomotive moving with no one in the cab!

A little french critter, just powerfull enough to push one or two cars. It has been made in 1934 for use in local industries and a good number have been preserved all around the country. it was nicknamed "the horn beast" due to the size of the die cat pushing bumpers. it would be fun to make one in o gauge but not really easy due to the size and finding a motor of small volume, but certainly a future project. This one is awaiting a complete restoration in a roundhouse.

Yay SWSat is on!

Off to a great start this AM. Careful Rich. Some lucky switcher may try to follow you home.

So I was looking at some pictures of my old layout that wrapped around my tiny office/walk in closet in my old NYC apartment. It really was tiny maybe 4 feet across  but I had fun with it  initially I made it so I could do a drop in bridge to complete the loop but I found that I mostly ran it without the bridge as a switch layout . It was fun to play with the upper level was really just a  storage shelf that stood in for my more mainline trains.

everyone got there milk and bread for the big storm?

Former New Hope and Ivyland 0-6-0 No. 9, aka; Virginia Blue Ridge No. 9, nee US Army No. 4023 built in 1942 is undergoing an extensive restoration to operation at the shops at SMS in Bridgeport, NJ. Once completed, the railroad hopes to use the locomotive to supplement its fleet used to switch cars in and around the facility.

WK&S 0-6-0T #65 has been taken into the shop, and it appears that she is going to be restored back to operation.

Happy SWSat!

Another great start to Saturday. Lot's of great switcher stuff so far. Looks like the snow is going to stay up north tonight and tomorrow. Stay safe if you are in the path of the storm.

This week another new arrival has made it to the RSJ&B. A Lionel 6-18814 D&H RS-3 # 8814 switcher. The D&H has become one of my favorite lines and works well with my East Coast tendencies.

Have a nice weekend everyone. Bundle up!

Bob

Good morning fellow SWSAT friends!

Rich I love that classic photo ... it tells a great story and it's most fitting for this weekend ( although my part of Maryland there is only rain ).  Thanks for being at the throttle so early in the morning and getting us rolling! IMG_5068IMG_5065IMG_5235IMG_5094IMG_5097IMG_5091IMG_5089IMG_5099

Tom - nice video with your switcher and the wintery mix!

Great photos and information everyone!  I love that I learn so much from all of you!

Here are some pics of " little switchers " doing their thing in Patsburg. Have a wonderful weekend and if you are getting hit with wintery mix and/or snow be safe, warm and run some switchers!  Happy switching!
