Hello again Switcher Saturday crew, and a I hope everyone has an good Memorial Day weekend.

If you can appreciate little locomotives that do big things, you found the right place.  Every weekend we share pictures, stories, videos and whatever else comes to mind regarding switcher locos and sometimes other little critters that move things about on the rails.

This past week I had a special delivery from Ebay and you would think Christmas hit the house. Check out the action here. ( you might want to be cautious with the volume on the first video!)

For $50 this was the best buy I have made in ages.  Mrs. Z even let it stay up in the living room for the week as the little guys did play with it intermittently all week.  I did try to make a copy of the coloring sheet at work but the paper was too heavy to feed through.

The crayola themed switcher has a little damage, but the kids don't care.  It would be nicer if it had a horn, hmmm......

Anyway, show us your switchers, have a great weekend, and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms.

jhz563,

Keeping the kids amused at home these days is certainly a priority. My grandsons amuse themselves the same way. This is their Lego engine.

I purchased MTH Premier Boston & Maine GP-7 #1563 with PS-1 around 2000. It has been a reliable engine and runs well. I bought it new and it has been worth the money. One of my favorites.

Yay SWSat is rolling out!

@jhz563 I am in the same boat as you. A boatload of bored kids on our 72nd day of being stuck at home in the big city. I brought out my favorite toys from my own childhood that my mom had saved. This is my 1970’s vintage Richard Scarry Puzzletown building set. It was and is my favorite toy. I could play with it for hours building and reconfiguring towns and cities. I used it with my star wars and gijoe figures later. My kids still love it when it comes out.

This week I added a bit of MPC fun. @coach joe sent me a Wabash car which inspired me to add some track to the kids town. I love the short 8” plugdoor boxcars Lionel made for starter sets. My DTI NW2 with added Dynamic Brake blister and tanks is shifting  some cars around. Trying to buildup a Toys R Us block train. Somehow a Lionel Kiddie City hopper made it into the mix From Lionels own short lived big box toy store attempt. Lionel Kiddie city even had a Kangaroo mascot where Toys R Us had Geoffrey the Giraffe. The Kay Bee Toy and Hobby car is somewhere in the mix as well.

I love how brilliant the colors are on all of these toys together.Run the risk of burning out your retinas.79C4EFED-D873-41D2-9D40-8D6C6E4BBC17

There is the Wabash boxcar loaded with South Carolina beach sand.

Here is Sargent Murphy and Lowly Worm getting a bit of railfanning in down at the tracks.

Almost have all the Toy unit train together.

Have a great weekend guys. I can’t wait to see what you post.

Happy Memorial Day version of SWSAT!

This week I caught Penn Central SW8 8616 (Atlas O) pulling a short train down the branch line.

The train passes the tower as the operator performs a roll-by inspection

The crew eases past the tower

The transfer caboose traverses a grade crossing.  Apparently, the owner of the Mustang has been testing the horsepower of his engine.

Have a safe and enjoyable Holiday!

TALES OF THE DOCKSIDER

B&M GP-7 1555 (Melgar, my PS1 engine, recently converted to PS3) is held in the B&A/NYC yard, waiting for a long B&A freight to clear the main.  NYC shop switcher X-8688 is also being held awaiting clearance to move some engines at the roundhouse.

X-8688’s crew, the lecture from the Yardmaster still fresh in their minds, decided to “extend an olive branch” to 1555’s crew.  They were pleasantly surprised by what great guys foreign railroaders can be!

Joe Safetyvalvoni, X-8688’s engineer, learned 1555’s engineer is also a fisherman!  They exchanged stories about their favorite fishing holes and “the one that got away”.  They even ended up exchanging phone numbers, agreeing to get together for some angling.

Vasik Semaphorowski, X-8688’s fireman, also got along well with 1555’s fireman.  On learning Vasik is single, 1555’s fireman mentioned his sister in law is great looking and available.  Vasik seemed interested, but you know how he feels about women (too much trouble).  Maybe Vasik needs a lecture on more tolerance for women!

Making it a perfect day, X-8688’s brakeman, Mick O’Depot, also got along well with 1555’s brakeman.  1555’s brakeman is also young, single and told Mick about a great new place where there are lots of girls!  It didn’t take long for them to agree to meet there soon.  No word on how Mick plans to explain this to his girlfriends at this time.

John

Had to share this with my wife'.. A great cheer up on an ugly rainy day, her in S.W. CT.  There is nothing like the excitement of youngsters when enjoying a surprise... Hours of fun ahead'.... 😁👌👍💖😀

Most are made from weeds I picked near home in the late fall. They are bundled together to form the basic tree with floral tape wrapped around the trunk holding them together. The branches are then trimmed a bit.  The brown buds On them  become the leaves. They are Then sprayed heavily with rattle can paint. I just pick fall like colors. The tedious part is painting out the individual branches with a brush a grayish black. It’s the only way I have found to give an airy look like a fall tree. The will shed buds if you lean up against them. Many have been on the layout for at least 15 years.

A day late, I hope everyone is keeping healthy, all is well here in Spotsylvania County Virginia at the Richmond, Chesapeake, Hudson Yard & Railroad (RiCHY&RR).

A recent addition, this Long Island #1501 H16-44 road switcher (Lionel Legacy 6-38436) is super nice, and was a great find on eBay.  I had to of course grab some passenger cars and now I've got a little bit of my "hometown" (LIRR Oyster Bay branch) running here on the RiCHY.

I found some nice pictures of the Oyster Bay branch online at this link, enjoy!

Best...Rich

Hey Rich- Great looking loco and cars, Who makes them?

Hey @RSJB18 Bob,

The cars are Railking (30-67917), I was trying to figure out what cars to pick up, was toying with the idea of the larger/K-Line streamliners (white), even reached out to Andy Ciavarella (SteamFan77) asking him advice, and then I saw a video online of these and thought they looked great so I bought them from online Marios, received them <2 days later, they really do look nice with that engine.

@trumptrain - Thank you Patrick!

@Quarter Gauger 48 - they are nice pictures, aren't they?  I need to find some more goodies like these, Andy also pointed me towards Steve Lynch's website, link here, which is really great too.

Take care everyone...Rich
