I need to take a Weaver mechanical reefer apart so to adjust the sound pot (turn it down!).  I had seen this either posted here or in the magazine years ago and actually did it.  I recently acquired another one of these cars recently and realized that I had forgot how to do it.  I don't want to force it apart and break something.  Does anyone know the trick?  Why they put a volume pot on it without easy access and no instructions is beyond me!

Just pull up slightly at each end alternating and walk it off the car. By the way, for those of you who don't have sound and would like it, Innovative Train Technology Products (http://www.ittproducts.com) has a sound unit with mechanical reefer sound available. (HQ312-1). It sounds like a low-rpm utility engine like a Lister. The trick would be rigging a way to switch it on/off intermittently.

Sounds like a Fairmont to me, lol.

Okay, got it!!!    Thanks for the help!  To me these sound better turned down low.  I like how it cycles through the 3 stages.  For those of you that aren't familiar with these, there are 3 different color LED's lighting up on the refrigeration unit to go with the sound changes.  Now I have to find my other one.  Should be pretty cool standing on a siding. (Literally! )
