I am trying to get to the root of the reasoning behind losing sounds in my Kline gs4. I decided to not bother with looking into it  and decided I’d try and run it again in a week. To my surprise all of the sounds are working again.  Can someone explain why I can try reprogramming it with no results in getting sound; but when I let it sit they will work again

RJ,

I think that you have a loose or poorly-connecting sound board.  My K-Line GS-4 (SP) doesn't do this, but my K-line B&O 4-6-2 definitely did this.

My fix was to pull the top off the tender, then unplug each board from the motherboard and reinsert them, one at a time, making sure to get the pins lined up precisely as they go back in (do not get them shifted by one or two pins; this will kill them as soon as you reapply power).

After this little fix, on my 4-6-2, it never happened again.
