TCA Financial just sent out an email with regard to forthcoming N.J. convention and show, and applicable

sales taxes, which, like Calif.,seems designed to discourage out of state sellers.  Not paying the tax, just the

time limits and hassle for out-of-staters to get the forms all seem designed to prevent sales.  That makes one wonder about the open shows around York, and sales tax at Hershey and Carlisle, and other Pa. collector shows.  Aside from York, what are the Pa. rules on that?

I read the Email. I expect that Pennsylvania has similar requirements for open shows. New York does.

One could argue that some tableholders are one time sellers and are not "regularly engaged in the business of selling taxable tangible property, taxable services, or prepared foods", but in my area train show promoters require everyone to have tax numbers in order to avoid problems with the tax department.

 

I am glad the Eastern Division has an agreement with the PA tax department to avoid the tax number issue. IMHO, requiring tax numbers in the member halls would put a serious damper on the show for those of us who aren't focused on the dealer halls.
I get York tables on occasion, if I had to deal with the PA tax department, I wouldn't bother.
