If I want to run multiple powered units such as Modern Williams by Bachmann is it better t tether them or is it unnecessary. Also if tethered do I only do the hot or do I need 2 wires? Also what is a slave unit. For those of you who hate repete questions sorry if I've disturbed you.

Alan, clearly he's talking about conventional engines unless Williams as suddenly started shipping DCS in it's products.

Dave, you can run similar conventional units like the Williams without any tethering.  Obviously, hugely dissimilar units that have significantly different speed curves could be problematic.  If you run them uncoupled on the track and the speed difference isn't more than 5-6%, they should do fine running together.

A "slave" unit is typically part of a command engine set, it has motors that are slaved to the master engine's speed control.  This would be done using a tether.
