In the owners’ manual there is no reference to operating the diner in Legacy mode, only TMCC mode. I spent a couple of days believing it would work fine using Legacy mode; however, I discovered pretty much by accident that it operated fine in TMCC. My reasoning is the diner was old enough that Lionel hadn’t switched to Legacy format that far back and that’s why it only worked properly with TMCC.
Anyone else experienced that or have any reply to my above philosophy?

Mine works great with my Legacy remote. Set it up on the remote as a passenger car and use the Trainlink feature to control it. I bought it when it came out and could only use the TMCC remote. Since I got Legacy it’s much easier to work with it.
Mine, which by the date I think is the same one that you have, or has the same sound system, had to be set to TMCC control in the CAB2, and then it functioned as you’d expect.
