Being that the 2012 Tinplate Catalog has not been released and I'm sure most pages are still blank. Here is my list in no particular order. I'm sure some of my other Tinplate co-horts will add their own thoughts to the list.

1) 600e
2) A std Gauge mint car or aquarium car
3) Houdini Lager Boxcar
4) A girls freight train in O gauge
5) BLack and Orange Halloween Freight set (using the CV)
6) A number 8 or 9 Christmas trolley
7) A 390 Christmas set
8) A polar railroad or polar express set
9) An Orange Comet.., or a Lemon Comet
10) Snow on the roof tops.

Thats it for me Santa . I'll leave a piece of provolone for you by the fireplace

A combination car ("combine") and a dining car for the long, low, sleek, and elegant Lionel/Ives 1695 passenger cars. That set would look GREAT in Reading two-tone green (dark green sides; light green band along the windows; yellow lettering). Steps at the vestibules, too. Brass trim. Keep the 6-wheel trucks, of course. They are the forerunners of Irvington car trucks.

Come to think of it, just about ANYTHING would look good in Reading two-tone green . . .

Pssst...Allan...2 0 1 2.

You may well be right. Nothing would surprise me except if all of the items showed up when they are supposed to. I might go into cardiac arrest if that happened.

In this case, four of the five are still listed for Oct. delivery (I just checked), and one for Dec. delivery. If only one makes it before Christmas, I hope it's either the 11-5505-1 or the 11-5508-1.

I remain cautiously optimistic. There IS a Santa Claus, you know! Big Grin To butter him up a bit, I included him on the cover of our December issue of the magazine.

Allan,

As I recall, I think one of your items was the 256 Electric. I also have that on pre-order and have been checking the site regularly for news. Its says "Shipping October 2011." Still have 3 days to go! We can hope. Big Grin
Indeed, the orange 256 is one of the items on my list. But I figure the chances of seeing an announcement about it being shipped before the end of this month are slim to none at this point. Besides, the next "official" announcement from MTH won't be until next Wednesday, and that puts us into November. There is still a month-and-a-half-plus remaining before Christmas, so anything can happen, I suppose.

The 256 should have been one of the easiest to get off the line, I would think, since the tooling has already existed for some time. Just needed a different coat of paint unless they are also adding PS3.

It's the last tinplate reproduction that has not been done. It will be a hit WORLD WIDE!

Just my considered opinion: Not true on either count. It is most definitely not the last tinplate reproduction that has not been done--not by a long shot--and I imagine that, in light of what it would have to sell for, it would have fairly limited consumer appeal.
While we are talking preorders, do you suppose that there are any items one could not go back and get from the first three catalogs??? In other words, how limited are these LIONEL CORP trains? In my case, I would like to go back and get a Crackle Black 400E and some of the streamliners from a couple years ago. I couldn't get them earlier cuz I was busy with big ticket items such as the AF Presidential and Milwaukee Road Super 381 Sets!!!
Ron, if you look around I'm sure you could find the items you want. First use the MTH website's "Find It" feature, it's not 100% reliable but it's a good place to start. Also, check with some of the bigger tinplate retailers, some seem to have quite a bit of stock, my favorite is Side Track Hobbies. If they don't have what you want I think Trains R Fun and Nassau Hobbies tend to stock a good amount of tinplate.

I agree with John. Side Track Hobbies has quite a bit of inventory of tinplate from the earlier catalogs. In fact, I'm looking at their "sheet" that I picked up at York that lists about 6-7 pages of tinplate.
Dear Santa Lionel, every year I ask you for this but usually in the 3 rail section. However lets try our luck with tinplate!

Please make some nice little tank engines in various colourful liveries with lots of brass trimming, pre-grouping British is what I really want but I could live with almost any variety of tank engine because they are small, don't take up too much room on a small oval, can be parked on a short spur and are invaluable aids for a yard and switching in general.

What with ETS, Ace, Darstadt, Merkur and a few more I forgot or dont know about, there MUST be someone who could do this as a sub-contract job at a nice price and you know they would sell worldwide as I'm not the only one who keeps hoping for more British stuff from you (am I?).

Some proper short wagons and vans would be nice too but I dont want to push my luck.
