Welcome home. How come you didn't bring back any of that Key West weather? I'm not enjoying this cold Maine winter. Although, we did have some rain that took away most of the snow while you were gone. (10 more years of work, then I'm moving to Florida)

If folks are smart they would just pay the $20 ahead of time by becoming a Trial Member for 6 months. No lines and they can see all the halls. Maybe it will be the impetus for them to become full members.

Stacey, I'll be going. I've missed the last several shows because I've been going to the East Coast Large Scale Train Show in March. But, this year it will be the TCA York meet. I usually only go on Thursday then when I leave the meet I go to the casino on the way home if I have any money left.

The Wyndham Garden is the closet to the fairgrounds.
Wyndham Gardens is nice, close, and has a decent but not great restaurant/bar. Super 8 is relatively inexpensive, but it has become pretty sketchy the past few years. Days Inn is a decent compromise on price and quality.
A few possibilities
We stay at the Sheraton Four Points right behind the famous Round the Clock Diner.
Eddie, York number 73 for me. I often thought about doing a post of the changes I have seen at York over the years. You go back to the start of York. Your stories would be fun to read.
The thing I miss the most are the early bandit meets. I am talking about 20-22 years ago.
Can't wait--it's a great experience that I've enjoyed since I was a little kid. I went to my first York 38 years ago this April.
Eddie, looks like we're neighbors--I'm in Brunswick. When you have a chance, we should meet and would love to have you up to see my layout and collection. Are you going to the show in Augusta tomorrow?

Marty, This is my 40th year. I believe that I have missed 4 Yorks including last April with my surgery. So that would make this one 76.

My first York was in 1985. Many were buying Lionel and Flyer pre and post war trains for their collections. Now, they are trying to sell them for prices at least as high as what they bought them for.
Today's York seems no smaller than it was back then. In fact, square footage-wise, it may be larger. The biggest difference is that the cars in the parking lots looked far more interesting than the ones look today. What has not changed (yet) is your feeling about being somewhere very special.

Those stories would be interesting to read, the two of you should think about putting something together.
BTW I found the receipt for my Lou Redman style table skirting that matches yours. Fifteen feet long and 48inches wide, 5 yds for $30, had to be early 90's. I saw the material at the Strasburg railroad shop and had to buy it after seeing Lou in his suit.

Greg.....I used to love the Yellow Hall in the 80s and early 90s. Wall to wall people. A great concession stand near Greenberg Books that sold cake donuts with rich chocolate frosting. Down the other end of the Yellow Hall was OGR with Myron and Fred, Lou Caponi had his spot. Williams was there as was Nicholas Smith. It was so crowded that you could literally feel the excitement. I don't remember exactly where Charles Ro was....I am thinking near Williams.....someone who remembers please help......

As I recall, Mort and Scott Mann were center in the Yellow Hall and Charles Ro was across from them next to the center doors.

I remember funneling into the Yellow hall. There was always a jam getting in or out. As a kid I can't remember much about it but I remember the crowds and I remember mth was down at the end towards the purple hall. Being a kid the crowds made it hard to see in the yellow hall. Also I remember the green hall. It was the only hall that was the same color as its name. I remember the large trains on the floor along the one side of it. The gentleman a couple camelbacks and one of them was in painted and I believe showed it was made out of aluminum cans.
I remember entering the yellow hall from the backside and the first dealer on the left having BLOWOUTS. It's was so crowded you could barely get in to his area.
At one of my first Meets I attended in the early 80's, I remember the open pit barbecues between the buildings. Some large pieces of beef on those big grids! And I thought, Wow! Trains and great food. I'm joining the TCA!!

Those sandwiches were great!
I think the same people are doing the barbeque beef sandwiches from a trailer between the white and red halls. But their food is nowhere near as good.

Still no email but the charge cleared my card before 3/13 deadline so I should be getting a badge in the mail soon.

Charles Ro was in the Yellow Hall directly across from us at Greenberg (they were in the center section of the hall) . I was managing editor for Greenberg Books for several years. The Yellow Hall rocked! I really miss the "feel" of that place, even though it could get downright uncomfortable at times, especially when you spent the entire day there.

Since I had surgery on my right foot for a bone spur I was thinking I may need to rent a wheeled device...
I was thinking on getting the hot rod version.
But then my foot healed up and I am now walking around the block again.

Yes there is a need, I understand and feel sorry for those who can't walk the show, heck I'm getting close to that myself. By the time we have our Thursday night gathering I am in great pain. BUT they still need to be aware of whats going on around them.

You can... when you are eating it, and then someone tells you what it's made out of.
My only complaint with the Yellow Hall was how it was odd-shaped in terms of the aisles under the grandstands... made it an interesting pattern to walk to make sure you didn't miss any tables.
I had forgotten where C Ro was also. I recall NST and Joe Grzyboski both crammed into one of those little alcoves on the side closest to what is now the parking lot between Orange and Yellow. TrainWorld/Land and Loco Louie at the end (towards Gold hall) on the grandstand side of the building. Used to buy all the Big Mo offerings from Harry Turner just inside the door closest to Purple (he had a single table right next to MTH).

April 1st in York, Pa.: Cloudy, 54 degrees.
Temperatures in the mid 60's by mid month, but it will be a rainy period.

It will be two years ago this coming October that my (now) boss demanded that I be back @ our facility in Richmond, VA "in 15 minutes". He was not the least bit pleased when I informed him that I might be able to get to my car in 15 minutes. By the time I got back, the crisis was over. I haven't heard the end of it since. Nor have I had the opportunity to return to York.
Am I looking forward to York? You bet your bippie!. Only this time I'll be pulling the battery out of my cell phone as soon as I park my car. Boss doesn't like it? Tough! I retire 3/1/18.

We need more people to stand up and claim their time off away from work! The degree to which people sacrifice their hard-earned time off is a national tragedy.
One suggestion - Don't wait until you arrive at York - turn off your cell phone the minute you leave work, and ignore any non-family/friends calls until you are due back on the job.
Once got a call while at York from a former employer. Informed them I was no longer working with them. "We can work out the details later, we really need your help this weekend!" came the reply. Forgot if I burst out laughing or choked on sputum but I do recall the conversation was cut short.

The York Transport Vehicle has been fueled. Acquisition apparatus (wallet) has been secured. Badges are ready. York Meet apparel will be packed Monday night. Tuesday night it's Phillies vs. Miami Marlins ballgame (Free Phillies texting gloves for fans 15 and over!) Wednesday The York Transport Vehicle will liftoff around T-minus 12 noon. Wednesday night landing at the DCS Meeting to start off the festivities through Saturday afternoon.

The Commander of Waffles (Ginny) has posted the Wednesday morning menu (Chocolate Chip Waffles) . . . As if I don't already have enough girth to waddle through the aisles. Captain EZMike Lauria has posted a guard around the Armored train carrier, and Sgt. Scrapiron Scher has lowered the rear seating to "Re-Accommodate" the occupants (trains). ETA is Isaac's at noon in Lancaster. A convoy is expected by 2PM to Best Western.
Have fun guys. Buy lots of trains at cheap prices. LOL

The only thing I caught any chin-music about was the shelving. It never made it into the house. I assume it is currently buried somewhere in the Shoosmith landfill in Chester Va.
Ah its all in the technique... Last year I threw a diversion up by purchasing a case of Hershey chocolate bars for each family member while I quietly unloaded my car with train goodies around the back of the house!
I march everything into the house and my wife just laughs at me.
My significant other often notices things that I missed, and she volunteers to carry stuff back to the car while I keep looking. And nothing has ever failed to make it to the car.
Sorry, she's spoken for and is not for hire, and although she has sisters, you don't want to meet them - trust me.
And I appreciate how lucky I am.

I've been here on the east coast since Saturday, 4/22. Nice weather so far ... but weather is still better in California. ;-)
Saw Eddie at the Wyndham bandit meet this morning and he looked good. He was not carrying any purchases. No outside venders were set up due to the weather.
Got here Sunday night. The bad weather Monday and Tuesday limited the normal buying opportunities. I did not buy much until today at the Wyndham parking lot. There was a fairly short break in the weather and some brave sellers put out their stuff despite the mist. And the sellers were motivated.
So far I have only bought one thing I was looking for; the rest I bought just due to the price being so low.
I can't wait to hear the national anthem tomorrow. Something about hearing that song always gets to me. Knowing the sacrifices that were given for us to be able to freely play with and talk about trains is an awesome feeling. Hearing it while standing outside the York halls, makes me feel like I am at Game 1 of the World Series.

The were a few HEARTY vendors outside at the Holidrome this morning. I'm not sure whether to applaud or SMH. ;-)
Most of the outside guys had moved to an inside room that is not normally used.
