The model is green, but it doesn't look like JD green. I love John Deere, even though mine is only a lawn tractor.

Someone has a corn technique. Like a bunch of cut down wooden stiff bristle brushes , sprayed with glue and a leaving like scenic material tossed in. Shake off the loose stuff when dry.

Anyway, there's technique out there somewhere.

Thanks for the tips. I do have GPS doing yield mapping, but not guidance. The chopper is a Claas with 650 Mercedes horses doing the work. The planter does have guidance, and really reduces fatigue in the long spring days. We are all green.

The barn is from an Ertl farm set. It came with stanchions, very good lookin' cows, fence, feeder, and some people. I had to paint the barn inside and out to keep the light from bleeding through. I landscaped today. I will post some pictures as it dries out.

Landscaping pictures. The interior shot is for BIGTRUCKPETE. As to your question-what you were asking about ain't feed troughs.  They weren't visible in the first picture. They are formed in the barn base. The box says 1/64, but the dimensions are O-scale to me.

I've got an ertl farm set but it's not the Dairy Farm.  A similar barn but different base.  It did come with those milking stanchions and it had a blue silo with the flatter white top included.

BIGTRUCKPETE asked...how did you make feeding troughs? When I built my milk house I noticed the sprue on some plastic model parts I had resembled dairy stanchions I was researching on the net. Looking at John's barn they look similar. Nice looking barn scene John.

OK…. gets me into motion...  I have what seems to be the same Ertl set.  Not certain because it is still in the box!  Not quite to the point of adding structures and my farm, but maybe sooner with such inspiration as the Forum and members.

I really liked the pictures of your farm on your layout.  Specifically I am impressed by the placement of the railroad  passing behind the scene instead of in front  of it. In your case it seems like a practical matter since the layout is against the wall, but I think we can all take a que from the image that you have created.  I, like many of us, like to show off the trains by placing the tracks on the outside edge, but in the real world they pass through or behind the scenes we experience in our daily lives.  You have inspired me to pay more attention to the scenes and landscaping in the foreground of my layout. Thanks for sharing.

Fantastic barn and farm scene John H!!  Jackiejr - your farm scene is awesome!!  Here are a few shots of my farm ... quite small but yet effective for my layout.  It was important to me to include a farm scene on my layout.  I used a French stable, used for WW2  military modeling, as my barn.  All other stock barns were way too big for my farm area.  

I picked up two Ertl barn sets, one is a white dairy barn, the other a red ranch barn.  Both are still in the box for the time being, but now I can see how they are going to look.

That is so precise that it doesn't look real.  I used to pick and shuck the corn in my grand parent's back field when I was about 10 years old.  My grandmother would get the pot boiling while I got the corn.  Corn tastes the best fresh from the field.  My grandfather never had his rows of corn so straight.  Both the real field and the modeling are impressive.  NH Joe

Wow! All the compliments and "Likes" are greatly appreciated. Thanks to all. I can't take any credit for the straight rows. I just turn around at the headland and hit the little steering wheel on the GPS screen. Autosteer does the rest.

Guess others who have spent time on dairy farms chortled at the comment about  "feed troughs".  Note that those are, as in the model, at the rear end of the cows. I have little exposure beyond once helping shovel three feet of it out of a calf stall, and driving a Case using a manure spreader over a field...no GPS, so no straight rows.

Heck, I'd come over to do some work, but it looks like the cows and the field are already being taken care of. Worked on my grandfather's farm for quite some time, looks great.
