1995, American Models introduced their version of the Baldwin S12 switcher.  While I can't recall exactly when, Leventon Hobby Supply of Chehalis, Washington (now closed) offered a version replicating the 1958 American Flyer Seaboard Baldwin.

I'm not sure what the rational was, other than the Flyer version was offered for one year only.  Leventon assigned a number one lower than the American Flyer number to avoid confusion.

Although aimed at the Flyer enthusiast, the model was available DC HiRail and with scale wheels along with AC.  I doubt many were sold as scale, given the Flyer connection.

I'm not even sure what my rational for buying one was, other than I was beginning to get interested in American flyer at the time.  Still it's a good looking model...

My model is DC Hirail.  In hindsight, I probably should have ordered the AC version, but I can always add an AM or SHS reverse unit.

Outside of decoration, the model is pure American Models, a smooth and dependable runner.  The Leventon Special compares favorably to the original American Flyer decoration (scroll down,) with adjustments made for the body moldings.

American Models currently offers the S12 in Seaboard, but with the prototype's decoration (AM photo,) which is notably the font,  red sill stripe and white pilot striping:

Well, that's my time waster for this weekend.  See ya next time.

What is interesting about the NASG site is that they missed listing the "classic" original ACG Baldwin in C&NW livery in its various forms.  The original was #355, released in 1956-7 (according to David Doyle's book and Greenberg).  In '57-8 there was the five digit version, 21801 (which is the one I have), sometimes sold as a pair with the unpowered 21801-1, followed in '58 by 21808.

Flyonel has re-released versions of the Baldwin (based on what looks like the original mold).  In 2007 they did C&NW.  Their 2016 catalog (the one I happen to have handy) shows four road names - UP, M&StL, Youngstown Steel and Canadian Pacific.  These last offerings claim to have a can motor and directional lighting - no fancy control system, like TMCC or Legacy.  And still no handrails!
