Train-A-Palooza Will Move to the Grapevine Convention Center March 11,12 2023

Grapevine, Texas — The Lone Star Hi-Railers model railroad club of Grapevine, Texas is proud to announce its ninth annual model train show, Train-A-Palooza, will be held at the city’s Convention Center and will run for two days. According to the model railroad club, the event was formerly held at the nearby Founder’s Building and has grown to the point of needing the larger facility.

Club spokesman and event organizer Mike McLintock said, “Both club members and independent vendors have asked for more space to sell their model train items and pushed for an additional day to allow more of the public to attend the annual show.” McLintock went on to say, “This year is the ninth annual Train-A-Palooza train show held by the Lone Star Hi-Railers, and we are pleased with the growth and expansion of the event into Grapevine’s 14,000 square-foot convention center.”

The event will attract model train enthusiasts from all over Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana and Kansas. Vendors will include club members as well as private individuals and companies who sell model trains and accessories.

According to McLintock, the club already has commitments from The Museum of the American Railroad in Frisco, nationally known model custom train layout builder TW TrainWorx of Dallas and is working to add area train stores and other train-related businesses. And the nationally known Lionel Collectors Club of America (LCCA) will man a table and has designated Train-A-Palooza as an official LCCA “Special Event,” inviting its members from the region to attend.

Train-A-Palooza will include sales tables, seminars and working model train layouts. The entry ticket price for the public of $5.00 for adults, 11 to 18 years old $2.00 and children free under 10 years old with accompanying adults will give access to the show both days and the Lone Star Hi-Railers’ huge three-rail O gauge model railroad located in the historic Grapevine railyard area inside an actual 65-foot-long baggage car. Show hours are Saturday 9 a.m. to 5p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The club has been located in Grapevine for over 14 years and feels strongly that the city is a natural location for model train activities because of the town’s focus on real trains. McLintock expanded by saying, “Grapevine was our first choice for locating our club’s headquarters because of its central location in the Metroplex, the presence of the Grapevine Vintage Railroad, and the addition of the TEXRail commuter train from Fort Worth to the DFW Airport. And the community and the city has been very supportive of our club.”

The Grapevine Convention Center is located at 1209 S. Main St. just a block north of the Highway 114/121 interchange. Parking is free, Lodging is close by the convention center and renowned and unique restaurants can be found all over the city with free public parking most everywhere. So, bring the entire family and make a day of it.

People wishing to inquire about renting table space at the show are asked to contact Mike McLintock at MAMcLintock@Verizon.net or (214) 693-0258. As a member of the club I wanted to raise awareness as soon as this announcement was made. Grapevine, TX truly has it going as a destination for everyone in the family. In addition to all the railroad attractions, there is dining, shopping, wine tasting, indoor splash park, Gaylord Convention Center, and more.  I think the most significant aspect of a visit to Grapevine is how it is linked to Dallas-Ft Worth airport by light rail making it possible to fly in with no need to rent a vehicle. There is wonderful lodging within a short walk from the transit station. The light rail continues into Ft Worth, Tx connecting with Amtrak, and the TRE commuter line at the city Transit Hub.  It is definitely worth a look.
