HELLO EVERYONE, i thank you all for the very kind comments, I'm actually having a blast building this. Carpentry comes quite easy for me , from when i was around 9 years old my father and uncle started teaching me. They were two master carpenter's, they taught me well.

I don't even know how my my toaster works, which is why I have green felt on a table and a toy train layout! But I sure do love what you're doing Alex, the skill it displays, the philosophy of simply running the trains--and being a Brooklyn College man for a time--the Brooklyn accent.

Thanks for sharing. It's a tonic for my blood pressure.

Three round circles   You should put a Christmas tree in the middle   Your first layout had the best track plan

First off, it that layout makes Alex happy....more power to him.

Secondly, he mentioned that the layout will probably be taken down in 2-3 years and that it may not get scenery.  This is not a long term layout.  Rather, it's a means to run trains.

This plan offers a nice way to run three trains on two levels and will have a working roundhouse.  It works.....IMHO.

First off  I dont care what your opinion is  I was talking to Alex

Hey Alex,

I have been looking at your "workbench" thread and was wondering when we would get a layout update. It's always good to re-evaluate your work and you made the change at the right time. If it works for you it works for me. Glad to see that you are happy with your decision. Though I was hoping to see you move into your scenery work I certainly understand that you don't want to go that far right now. I will, God willing, wait another 3 or more years to see what masterpiece you come up with.

Dave

Alex,

Were you happy with the lift section you build in the part of the layout you removed? I used your idea for securing the lift section / track alignment with a barrel bolt lock. It helped keep the lift section level and the tracks aligned.

Thanks,

Richard

Hi Richard,

The issue i was having with the lift out section was expansion and contraction, this layout room isn't fully heated or cooled. It's  part of the house that's totally unfinished, so heating and cooling comes from portable units. Plus the lift out sections were located on curves, not straights. Another issue was the lift outs were making it look like clutter in the room. Now the way it is it feels much more open and airy.

Thanks, Alex

As for the track plan, yes i agree it's pretty much three loops. i will reiterate... this isn't our forever home, i didn't feel like going to the town and filing for permits to finish the room off (heating, cooling, electric, etc etc.). I also had to leave easy access to the utilities, so i was only left was a 21x11 area. Most likely we will only be here for two more years, not going to invest money and time into something that has to be dismantled. Once we get to our forever home i will then create a dream layout, for now I'm happy with this. I can run trains let them stretch their legs.

Thanks, Alex
