NMRRC Lake Superior & Ishpeming box cars by Lionel - Still a few left

Nice to see the club back producing a club car!  These will be a must have.

I'll get excited when I see one for Lake Michigan.

I'm still on my ship.  I'm waiting for the club to get that up on line.  Andrew,  the club hasn't started taking orders yet - as soon as they do I will post it here.  I'm getting a 4 pack for myself! 

 

With only 200 boxcars total being produced, by the time I get around to ordering, they might be sold out.

I hope to make an order too.

 

Just talked to the officers of the club, they are waiting to hear from Lionel on the final shipping costs.  When we know that we can set our prices and set up for orders.  hopefully soon!

Are these two reefer cars from the Northern Michigan Railroad Club?

Are the new cars going to be the same scale and size? if they are Lionel Scale Cars, I believe they will be larger than these.

Can you tell us what ship you are on?  it would be fun to track the ships location, like we track commercial jets.

Sure are!  The Bosch beer car is from my personal research.  Those are models of early 20th century cars, so they would be smaller than the LS&I cars in real life.  

I am captain of the Lake Guardian,  you can follow it on several websites, though it relies on our transponder, which occasionally is out of range,  We are currently docked in Milwaukee, WI. You can try Boatnerd.com, which has an AIS link.

Right vessel in the pic, but wrong location.  We are docked farther South in the Port of Milwaukee.  

Lionel also has the PS-1 40' Boxcars that are super-detailed and made in China. That version of the PS-1 40' boxcar has not been run in either Lake Superior & Ishpeming or Escanaba and Lake Superior. Should the China built model be produced in the LS&I and E&LS schemes?

Really wasn't feasible to use the China cars, and it would have raised the price considerably.  Plus we prefer Made in America.

If the detailed PS-1 made in China in the LS&I and E&LS schemes and other numbers were sold through the LIONEL Catalogs would anybody mind?

The LionScale Modern Exterior-Braced 50' Boxcar now have the standard Youngstown doors available.

Will the ESCANABA & LAKE SUPERIOR boxcars be made with the right door in the USA?

Pretty excited about these.  Lionel's new decorating process makes it possible to do more elaborate paint schemes.  Looking at doing a really cool beer car in 2019.

Back in 1976 I got this photo in Negaunee. Looks like "No Herald" also permissible. But, I'll get my order in tonight.

That's a neat photo though - all railroads with lines in the Upper Peninsula in 1976.  BTW, I lived in Negaunee then.

Thanks for posting the order forms, Charlie. I've occasionally seen one of the older cars in a virtual sea of Soo, WC and CN paper cars in the North Ave. yard that the UP uses to service the Chicago Tribune printing plant. 

I am ordering mine!  I'm not missing out on this run! I am on a continual search for the E&LS boxcar and that baby is tough to find!

Thanks for the order!  Only 100 made of the E&LS car so yeah, they don't come up often.  I'm thinking this year's car will go fast and there are only 50 0f each variation.

That's a good question.  I did the same, but didn't use tracking.

Thank you for completely ignoring the fact that Lionel has the correct door the for Modern 50' Boxcar and can finally make new road numbers of the ESCANABA & LAKE SUPERIOR modern 50' boxcars with the correct design of door. They can produce them in the USA now.

I mailed my Non-member application today, Even paid the Michigan sales tax.  Sent it to Don at NMRCC Car Agent.  Ask him to hit me up with an e-mail, when he receives my letter.

Side bar Question, for any OGR member: Will Lionel do one boxcar, with my YT logo on it, if so please provide link.  Seems like with a digital printer this could be done. I had a company do a coffee cup with my logo.

  Gary, I spotted digitally customized on white boxcars on the Lionel site a while back; but the site STILL doesn't work well enough that I could look deep at exactly what requirements it entailed (©®™?) or note if they are still available. I think Mac was only on engines too (at least "my" era).

We are not doing the E&LS boxcars again.  You are quite welcome to put up your own money and have Lionel make them.

Lionel can make them anytime for anybody. Why is he searching on the internet for leftovers? He just has to ask the people in North Carolina.

Don has been receiving orders. I spoke with him last weekend. No worries, I'm sure he has everyones orders.

Andrew, Lionel does have minimums for special runs.  They aren't going to just make something because an individual calls them. It doesn't work like that.

those are only available with the 6464 sized car bodies.

77 cars already sold out of 200.  I'm thinking these will sell out before too long.    Looking forward to getting my set!

 

As of last Saturday, there are 33 cars left for sale of the 200 being made.   If you are still thinking about it, they won't last very long, especially with the mention in OGR.  Lionel will be starting production shortly, so we should have them by the end of December. 

Not a suprise, these are great looking and something unique in O Gauge.

Lionel has completed production and notified me that the cars have just been shipped. Hopefully we will get them in the next few days and get them organized for reshipment by the following weekend.   

There are still a few cars left for sale, so if you weren't sure that it was going to happen....you still have a chance to get one.

Me too!  But it will take a bit to match up the cars with the orders.

Like the production photos also, especially the mystery boxcar that's in 2 of the photos.

We were hoping that the cars would have arrived today, since they were shipped a week ago, but no joy.  Maybe Tuesday?

I believe the dino cars are another custom order.

No, hope they didn't get lost in the snowstorms!  I'm sending Lionel an email asking if they have a tracking number.  I had expected them last Friday.

That's troubling considering they shipped them, or at least advised you they shipped them, coming up on two weeks ago.

The cars have been located.  Arrived last evening in a snow storm.  The member that received them was experiencing an email outage and did not realize that until this morning.  The cars will now be sorted and prepared for shipment.

HURRAH!!

I should have some additional information this weekend.  The NMRRC is a volunteer organization, cars will ship when they are inspected and processed.  I can tell you the weather has been brutal! 

Boy do I know that! I live on Lake Michigan in Wisconsin. Not only jabe we experienced the cold, but I've watched the massive clouds form over there lake as they head east, filled with snow, I'm sure!

The LS&I boxcar I ordered arrived today.  It looks really nice.  Living in northeastern Wisconsin, I'm mostly interested in Milwaukee Road, Soo, CNW.  The upper peninsula of Michigan is really beautiful, so I'm really glad I ordered one.  Nice job to the NMRRC.org  (Northern Michigan Railroad Club).  Look forward to to seeing what the next offering will be.

Yes!   I am familiar with the N.E.W O gaugers.  I always stop by to to chat with them and check out the modular layout at the Green Bay Train show in April.  I will check it it out again.  Hopefully I will stop by the club when I get a chance.  Thanks!  Enjoy the LS&I boxcar,  neat railroad for sure.

No doubt they came out great.  Was fun being part of the project with John and the whole NMRRC gang.

Mine arrived today!  Beautiful car.  I love the texture of the paint.  Looking forward to putting it in service.

So glad that you guys like the cars!!!  It was fun, and challenging  to do them.  We have already planning what we will do for the next two years.

There are two different numbers of the black diamond cars still available, so if you really like them get two......so the one doesn't get lonely.

These cars are very impressive. John is a good friend of mine and I knew if he was involved in creating these cars, they would definitely turn out great and be something I would want to add to my layout.

Thanks Karl!  I am glad you like your LS&I car.   Charlie is also doing a Upper Michigan theme layout....and both you guys like antique tractors.

There is one of the red diamond cars left (#2483), so if that's the one that you are looking for.....move fast.  About 6 of the black diamond cars left.

I keep searching eBay for one of the red diamond boxcars.  Will there be a car made for 2021?

I have been in communication with the club. Sadly, there will be no club car in 2021. Hopefully they will get back on track in 2022.

While the Lake Superior box cars are gone, there were a few of the Dundee Cement cars still available just two weeks ago. I picked up 3 more myself. They are selling them for $40 each, a huge savings.

Was definitely a good project John!  I still remember our phone call when I was in NC right after leaving Lionel to discuss the project.
