Aloha,

It’s been a while but as the holidays loom on the horizon I thought we might need to open up the O-Gauge Confessional for a few days. This gives those wayward souls among us a chance to ease their consciences and make some things right.

The confessional works as you might expect: you post your latest transgressions and I’ll try to give you some form of absolution. It’s all very tongue and cheek and the humorless need not apply. If you’re not sure what to do just keep an eye open for some of the usual suspects.

The O-Gauge confessional uses some familiar trappings but should not be mistaken as anything untoward towards any specific church or theology. If it’s not your cup of tea that’s ok.

That said I’ve dusted off my seat, poured some excellent Willet family reserve and feel well fortified to hang the “Open” shingle and am looking forward to your latest foibles.

Yesterday, I ordered some Atlas 20' containers from Mr Muffin, while my wife was in the room. She still has no idea that I did it. By my standards, it was a very small purchase.

However, there won't be any hiding the stream of new locomotives that should begin hitting my doorstep in the very near future, if Lionel's shipping schedule holds true. Lionel is the DEVIL! and I am possessed. Thirteen diesels between volumes 1 & 2.

Yojimbo,

Welcome back, we have some bad boys here that need confession and absolution. Myself, it’s been several years since my last confession. My biggest transgression is getting involved in Standard Gauge and spending an ungodly amount of money on the shiny things. Please forgive me...but understand...it’s for the children.

Thanks,

13!  Hell,   You just made me feel  like I have nothing worth confessing now lol.

Yojimbo,

Been awhile since your last apperance here. I've been very, very good in the past 2 to 3 years since retiring from that wretched thing called full-time work. My income has dropped slightly but am enjoying all the trains I bought over those years.

Still attending York every 6 months and I might sin there if someone named engine or rolling stock calls my name. You never know when the next sin will occur...

Ted

Bless me Father for I have sinned... this is my first confession in many a years...

I sold my old car and pocketed the cash for October York instead of putting it down on my new vehicle.

I did not sell any trains to raise additional cash for York this year, but I am still planning on spending lots of money at York.

I ordered another 2,500 dollars of trains from the new Lionel Catalog last week

When the kids went to bed at 9:30 last night I still ran the trains on full volume and full smoke in the basement telling the wife the  hand held remote switches were stuck on high.

I purchased and installed a MTH DCS system and by The LORD's guidance it worked flawlessly with the Lionel Legacy system, so I will need God's strength not to purchase any additional MTH PS3 locomotives

I said a few curse words when assembling an older Korber roundhouse kit with warp walls

I also cursed when I bumped my head and back maneuvering under my layout duck under(s)

I broke my promise in stating I would not buy any more O prewar trains

I did not go to bed until after midnight (keeping the wife up) while running trains in the anticipation of October York week!!!!

I hope there are trains in the other place...

OMG Craig you have no chance of being saved! But that sure is a nice way to go!

This is my first confession.  So I need more space.

But as a start, I purchased a ZW-L Transformer for more than $700, when I already had three ZW's.  I further ran it from the hobby shop, and out to the car, covering it with a blanket in the trunk.  Before sneaking it into the basement using the outside entrance as my wife went into the house.  I exchanged one ZW  (planning on telling her that it was "broke" should I get discovered with the new one.  Is it an O-Gauge sin to PLAN vs. DOING something sinful??).  In fact only the whistle function needs repair.

I don't THINK I was discovered, but, she is pretty cagey.

I've been on a 'no buying' spell....I NEED nothing......and have way too much. (can you??) But I bought a large ticket item yesterday. A item I have wanted since it was first announced. A item that I have seen in a number of shops but never pulled the trigger. Once I saw the item in a hobby shop. They were having a 25% off entire store. I pointed at this item and said 'I'll take it' . 'That's not on sale'.....was the reply.....making me want in more. When one came up at a good price I had to have it. I will post when I get it....but this is now the LAST big purchase!!! (until next time)

I guess I'm here to relieve the guilt of others. A little "public service" feels good.

Hahahaha. I thought I was the only one that did this!

I've done a few of the others as well - running the trains and keeping kids and wife awake. York fever has set in.

Big Boy,

Yours is the sin of conspicuous consumption. Leave your Lionel catalog out on your chair with the items you ordered circled, every page tabbed. If she doesn’t spit that you’re clear.

Standard Gauge isn’t a sin, it’s oversized, colorful, glorious perfection.

I’ll allow.

Oh J Daddy,

Of all the posts so far yours is the one that worries me the most. You might want to start pumping the brakes...

You can’t have enough ZW’s. Ever.

Smuggling something into the house is just lightning a fuse to a pile of TNT.

It had been 3 years since my last purchase and these are my sins, I forgot my abc's in the last few years and really made up for it, oh boy: B6sb, CC2, G5s, HH1, I1s, L1s, L2s, M1a, Q2, T1.  For these and all the rolling stock and layout outlays I ask you for penance and absolution!

Did you make a contribution to your retirement fund equal to at least 25% of what you spent?

Yes! Yes I did.  I feel better already!

I need divine guidance.

I wish a Lionel new 2018 Toymaker Trolley but deliverance seems to be postponed.  Seems there is no firm date, for the deliverer.

Or if I wish to spend more sheckels a MTH Ge Evolution, then of course I need a DCS Explorer.

This is for carpet central a humble offering, for the grand kids.

Grandma will not approve either offering.

Should I commit the greater transgression, of getting both.

The o gauge Gods are smiling on me lately as my wife has been much more supportive as of late.  However I have sinned by my ignorance.  I bought a yuengling green dome car to run with tan passenger set.  I outbid my wife who was trying to buy it for me for Christmas.  The Mrs. was not happy with me!!!F54F90FD-002D-4873-98E7-B988E001F4C7

Forgive me Father YOJIMBO I have sinned. Not sure if this is my first confession or one of many. Too many lapses of memory to remember. I have tried so hard to just look at the new catalogs when they come in the mail  but each time I open one and flip through the pages I find myself buying again and again. I ordered a number of engines and good amount of freight cars. I called my financial planner and before I could say a word he said how much do you need for York. Am I that obvious or am I obsessed with the term "GOTTA HAVE IT". I need a sign...........Paul

YOJIMBO: WELCOME BACK!  ☺  Since you have been gone, I have sold all my O gauge, mostly to a local fellow TCA member, and got back into vintage LGB pretty heavy ($5000 and counting) and I thinned out my standard gauge "herd" to an MTH state set pulled by a Lionel Classics 2-400E and a 200 series work train that includes an MTH 219P motorized crane and three LCT cars pulled by an MTH dark green 408E. I am really rocking the LGB, which I initially got involved in with a starter set in 1978. I prefer the German made vintage production and I was fortunate enough to find a very reliable family-run supplier who purchases new-used trains from collectors. I have two high-end coaches ($350 EACH that are current Marklin-LGB Hungarian production and they both have ball bearing wheelsets, fully detailed interiors, and factory lighting and are 1:22.5 scale at 26" long! Wife approves and life is good! She even let me upgrade our home theatre system with a Samsung 4K Smart TV and a Samsung Ultra Blue Ray player, all connected to a Samsung 750 vacuum tube sound bar. The latest Xfinity DVR rounds out my mini home theatre and that upgrade was FREE! Life is good at 76 even having been on dialysis almost fourteen years now!  ☺
