Peter sorry to hear those 3 clanks of death, but probably as not as sorry as you were to hear them.

Call Engine House Hobbies in Gaithersburg, Md. ( they are listed in the OGR magazine Roundhouse ) and talk to the repairman ... Louie ( forgot his last name ).  He's great!!  If your locomotive can be fixed he'd be the one who could do it.  He repaired several of my MTH, Williams, Atlas, and Lionel locomotives within the last year and did a terrific job  He's also worked on couple of Weaver steam locos for a friend of mine and did a wonderful job!

Of course Gunrunner John I'm sure would do a wonderful job for you!

It's a little software problem.  If hardware were involved then we'd be worried, given its age and the present chip shortage.

Patrick 's suggestions sound like good ones, or find a good local tech.  That would work too.

If I were you, Peter, and I loved the locomotive, I would consider upgrading it to a PS3. Arnold

PS: I acknowledge that the locomotive may not be worth the approximately $300 to have it upgraded, but I would still upgrade the engine if I loved it.

It's a simple fix as a rule, tech have the MAKE-PS chip that resets the select code to cure the 3-clanks.  That was also sold to customers, perhaps someone close to you has the chip.

Peter I do believe GRJ hit the name on the head. I recently purchase the reset chip from MTH Parts for about $30 and it comes with removal tool and instructions.

Get the chip and get her running. 👍👍

Peter, any MTH tech will have the chip I suspect.  I'll bet someone in your club has it and can to the reset in a few minutes.

Well, He is not using an MTH board he upgraded to QSI and some of the software may be different.  I have a MAKE QSI chip but have never used it.  Got it as MTH was closing.  Maybe Make PS will work, but not sure. 

I can give it a shot as I have both chips, I also have spare QSI and MTH boards.  G
