until recently  I only had Lionel command engines. I decided to buy a PS3 standard gauge engine for a tree layout. Now I am thinking of getting a TIU and WIU(wifi), and using my IPad for control, but not getting the handheld unit. Any reason to not go this route, thoughts? I already have legacy and Lionel wifi and feel I don't need another remote to use/keep track of.

Thanks

Bill

I would get the entire DCS set, TIU and Remote. The app will run trains, but I believe there are some things you can not do with the app just yet, possibly in the setup or configuration of the system or other needed items. You just might need the remote to get up and running?

Additional features are supposed to be added in the Deluxe app due out next year, but I don't think I would take the chance until we see for certain what the Deluxe app will bring us. I imagine there are still several things you will have to do with the remote for a while yet, possibly even when the Deluxe app is released.
