I agree

Then there is always the craft stores, Michaels, AC Moore, Hobby Lobby, a walk around those stores may present many different materials for use as round covers.

I whole heartedly agree.  There are wonderful things in these stores and they all take each other's 50% off coupon.

Now my wife and I love to scan the floral department... Albeit for different reasons.

This it not a great shot but the white tree reminds me of a flowering springtime tree.  These were part of a plastic arrangement at Michael's that I got on clearance for $2.  It made 3 trees.

I use a combination of ground foam, dirt, and other materials to create some texture and then apply static grass with a home made applicator. You can buy one made by Noch for around $160.00 or make one from a Harbor Freight electric fly swatter for about five bucks. There are videos all over you tube explaining how to do it.

You have a very nice looking layout!

Joe, I want to thank you for suggesting those how to videos. I watched a couple, then ordered three fly swatters, one for my wife, one for me and one for the layout. I haven't done scenery in years, so static grass is totally new to me. I literally have buckets full of WS which I hope to use.

Your results are spectacular!!

I posted this pic on another thread and afterward I stared at it for a while and came to the conclusion that the landscaping looked like a golf coarse and not the tracks that ran around my back yard as a kid.

I decided to add some texture which gave the area depth, no more flat and smooth.  I do have to make more trees and bushes to finish it off but I am very happy with it now.

Looks great Paul! At the risk of slightly derailing this thread, I have to say I love the trees to the left of the tunnel. How did you do that? I really like that clustered look, but have never been able to do it.

Thanks Zeke, I actually carver a piece of pink foam into a pseudo hill that I covered with ground foam and glued to the wall then placed tree's and bushes on and up against it to fill in the space at the mouth of the tunnel.  I actually tried to paint the wall around it but wasn't happy with my color choices, I'm planning on changing it but you know how it is.  Here's a straight on shot....

Hey, Trains go into this golf course.  It's always wise to let them play through.

Have Fun.

I don't golf but if that's real, I want to play there!

One suggestion to make your scene look more "real"; paint/weather your rails so that they are not so bright & shiny.

I had used Scenic Express products, Fort Pitt Highrailer modules.  I liked Green Adirondack Blend EX897B.

You may want to try a static grass/flock applicator.  Make the simulated grass stand.

Also review the Scenic Express catalog, a wonderful model railroad build tool, IMO. Available electronic download or they still list a paper catalog.   One of our sponsors.

Mike where did you find a 6 head signal bridge, love it, or did you make it. I'v had a difficult time in even locating any heads at all, mth has them catalogued but noone has in stock

I have weathering paint pens but just didn't think about using them until you mentioned it.  How's this, I'm nearly finished?
