Unfortunately, I cannot figure out the difference between the Lionel 6-18351 vs 6-18373 now, except for the yellow hand rails.

There is no difference between the two except for the yellow handrails That I believe is more prototypical. But I also think the NYC had them both ways. One was earlier and the other later.

The train budget is sort of out of control this year.  Well, maybe not "sort of."

Delivered this week were two items that are not really Holiday things, but I will be working on them over the holidays:

- another Lionel 0-4-0 (for a conversion/bashing project)

- an MTH PS3 Galloping Goose (for another project)

And hopefully, Lionels' four car UP and Milwaukee Olypian sets show up this week, and the new UP Legacy E-8s by Christmas: I did order those with the idea they would be a holiday gift to myself.

Lee, I hear ya!!!

BTW, you may get some relief on the passenger car front... at least as far as this year's budget is concerned.  ETA's for the passenger cars are all over the map, but many have slipped into the Mar/Apr 2014 time-frame.  There are still some showing Dec 2013 on Lionel's website, but they were catalog'd AFTER the ones showing March/April 2014... so I wouldn't really expect them this year.  We never know though.

The one that arrived is an MTH PS3 Alaska Galloping Goose.

We tested it out on the Mercer Junction layout.  Alas, it is not operating properly per the store owner's (our forum's Dave Minarik) specifications.  It has a bit of a wobble.  Dave tightened the motor mount and changed the traction tires…still wobbles.  He's going to do a complete truck swap on it, and I'll go back to pick it up after the parts have arrived and Dave has time to fix it.

Really nice to have an LHS that will take care of such things 'cause I'm not much of a handyman when it comes to repairs.

I didn't come home empty-handed, though.  Picked up one of the new Woodland Scenics Furniture Factories.  Truly a nicely detailed structure…big, too!

What I'm waiting for…not with a great deal of optimism that it will arrive in time, however…is the Climax set I have on order.

Budget has lost almost all context as I approach the first anniversary of diving head long into the hobby.  I tried to spend less over the summer, but then could not resist this Premier GP 38 at $100 off list...of course I could not resist an assortment of RMT 64 series boxcars as well given those prices...

BNSF GP-38 011

So I swore that would be it and that would cover birthday & Christmas...but then I found the 3 car Premier Merger set from some years back in excellent condition for $80 shipped...so how could I pass up those savings

Now I can't seem to stop searching for and staring at the recently released Premier BN Steel Caboose that would round out this scale size consist (GP38 & Merger Set) perfectly...then 'that's it, I swear, no more' [famous last words].  I think I need an intervention
