TIU problem Rev I3

Two blinks on the TIU usually means it's TIU 2. Have to tried addressing it as TIU 2 with the remote?

Of course, I changed the remote to accept TIU2.

Is it an I3a by any chance?   

If so,

• Did it work before?
• Does it have the resistor fix in it?

Some I3a TIUs had signal problems.

David what is the resistor fix ? is there a service bulletin that you know about or have. what are the details about the mod !

I had this identical issue. Sent it to the factory in late 2019. They said the main Processor was bad and this TIU is done. I still have it though and hope this thread leads to a possible solution.

FWIW, I have no service bulletin that talks about any resistor fix for the TIU, the only two I have that mention resistor is adding resistors to some passenger cars and powered units for various issues.  Those are the only two that the word resistor appears in.

I had a Version I3a that the factory had put a dab of white paint next to the version number to indicate a fix. Never was told what the fix was though...   Joe

Attached is the factory service report of my TIU with this issue. Fault a code is DCS05 and Cause Code is DCS-30. Common enough to have codes, but not ones that could be repaired. The resolution was me buying a new TIU.

Thanks for chiming in.  That is what I was afraid of.  The client has already accepted the fact that this TIU is toast.  I did not want to install a new RF board only to have that destroyed by the processor.

About 15 years ago from the Jeff Strank era.  This was for RevI3a TIUs with poor signal. 

Is there any documentation on this fix?  Was it for a specific version of the TIU?  What was it supposed to fix?

This was before I was an ASC tech.  The fact that there is no documentation from MTH should not surprise you John!  LOL  You might give Don a call.  He was most likely around back then.

This fix is specific for this TIU.  I was also told that not ALL Rev I3as needed this.  I do not know if that is true.

I can tell you that I steer clear of these TIUs.

There are several fixes for those I units, hence all the mod # on them.  They do predate become a tech just like Dave mentioned.  There are probably ASC updates on them, and I may have one or two, but not sure where.  Those fixes are typically about signal strength, I also believe there was a jumper depending on which memory chip it got.

Bruce, have you gone through the TIU trouble shooting in your manual, there are voltage checks on the Receiver board you can do.  G

Yes, George.  I mentioned voltage checks at "A" and "B" in the initial post.  Could not get close to the component for "C" voltage check.

There are no service notes on the I3A.
