Seems I just can't complete the last step in upgrading my REV13A version 4.2 TIU. Wanted to practice on the 13A before doing my REV Ls. I've got Barry's book in front of me and have read and watched whatever else I could find on line. I downloaded the 5.0 Consumer loader. Downloaded the 6.1 upgrade. Relatively new Windows 10 computer. TIU is in program mode with the stereo cable inserted. Serial port to computer with USB. Driver installed. TIU power applied after the stereo cable and then TIU to computer connection made. I followed the prompts accurately ( I think ). Problem is when I get to the last step where I am supposed to find the 6.1 download and I click on it, I keep getting the unzip with Winzip box. It's unzipped but I just can't get past this step. I never get to the screen where it shows the upgrade taking place.Sure looks easy when I watch the videos but I must be doing something wrong. Thought I would try the Forum so I could learn to do this myself. After two nights of frustration trying and thinking about this, I'm hoping someone can help cure my insomnia.

your not doing the download correctly. when you unzip the files there should be 2  files but you have to select browse and then install on your desktop. files names are! I'll put them in your ogrforum on the message below ok!

Files (3)
this program download the exe file to crereate the 2 files you need there actuall below
tiu update use this file
remote use this file for remote

ok so when you tell dcs loader to install files say for tiu select tiu6p10.dcst  ok and loader will update tiu to revision 6.10. the when you upgrade remote same way except you have to hold in off but for remote to start update .when  asked which file to use for remote type in or click on remote6p10.dcsr ok then you should not have any problem. when doing tiu may sure to have 3.5 mm stereo cable connected to tiu as directed by dcs  mth software ok!

Ah yes, I missed that.  Just for giggles, I just went through the process (without an actual TIU), and the only other gotcha that I see is where the files are saved when you unzip.  I had to manually change the unzip location to my desktop, press unzip, then use the loader program to point to desktop.  Unzip was putting the files in a temp location - very long file structure...

Ed  you start the loader program 5.0 and then click send file to tiu when loader shows up you have to go  to Desktop and pick tiu tiu6p10.dcst then start loader and it will send file to usb port on your computer and install it in tiu. you have to have power up the tiu with 3.5 mm stereo cable to proto dispatch n other end to proto-cast . you have to have the tiu powered up before you try to start loader, then should start and complete!

Thanks to everyone again!

I bring the Loader Program up on the computer. Program recognizes the TIU through Com  4. Put the audio jumpers back in as I set everything up again according to the prompts. Hit the "send code to TIU " icon.Clicked on the TIU downloaded file you sent me ( thank you ) on  my desktop. Hit "start" on the loader program. Seems I can't get beyond this step as there does not seem to be any connecting between the Loader Program and the TIU file you sent me. A few attempts resulted in a message of TIU File Error. I hate to clog up the Forum with my ineptitude. Marty Fitz has helped me many times in the past but I hate to put more on his plate right now.

I thought i read somewhere that one should delete older loader files off ones computer (the ones before 5.0) before upgrading to the latest one because it can cause issues with the newest one. Not sure about this though.

That's nonsense, the loader or the update files you select in the process are the only ones in play.  Inactive files won't affect you at all.

I've been following here for awhile, before I jumped in.
I purchased a used laptop from Alan Mancus 2 weeks ago with Windows 7 Professional. He was kind enough to also install the DCS loader & the TIU & Remote downloads. I had no issue updating my 2 TIU's to Ver 6.10. I hit a brick wall with the remotes though. The downloads are critical. As Alan suggests, save to your desktop. Thankfully, Alan did that for me. Here are the steps Alan has directed:

  • Open DCS Loader
  • Click YES
  • Turn on power to TIU
  • In Loader Window select
    Options
    Serial Port
    Auto Search TIU
    Click START
    TIU Found
    OK
    System
    Send code to Remote
    Start
    OK
    Open "remote6p10dcsr"
Press & START HOLD KEY (on remote)
    Click OK
    Multiple times if necessary
If successful, the GREEN progress bar will begin & in less than 5 minutes, upgrade will be complete.

    Good luck!
