I recently moved over to DCS but I have a few TMCC/Legacy Locomotives that I like to run. I hooked everything up per the instrctions to run my TMCC locomotives. When I go to set the locomotves up, the DCS finds them and adds them without a problem but, when I tried to start them up they won't start. I can still use the TMCC remote to run them so I know that they have power and signal. Does anyone know where I could be going wrong. I did notice it gves them the number 1 for an address by default. The locomotive was a brand new TMCC upgrade so it should have had the address of 1 if am not mstaken. Any help would be appreciated.

DCS doesn't actually add the TMCC engine like it does to a DCS engine adding and setting an internal address to the board. It just adds the name in the remote's address using what's stored on the TMCC board already. The assigned address is from the set button using the TMCC remote.

I have a feeling there's a problem with using the address #1. Maybe try setting the address to another number with the TMCC remote and press set on it.

Before doing this make sure when you press something on the DCS remote, the lights on the TMCC base are flashing to show it's doing something.

I don't have my TMCC hooked up thru my DCS so maybe someone else can help here better?

As Joe says. The engine loads into the remote by you manually doing it. Give it a name. When you have entered it hit the D for done.  You then need to enter the TMCC address that you use with your TMCC remote. You then need to enter the TIU address that the TMCC base is plugged into. You need not power up anything to do this. You can bring the remote upstairs and sit on your couch and do it.

I think that this messes up a lot of DCS users. The remote can't talk to a TMCC engine in the same way it does 2 way communication with the PS2 or 3 engines. You also aren't programming the TMCC engine when you add it. You are just creating a DCS address that sends commands to a particular TMCC engine. You name that address so that you remember which engine it is.

Now the app handling TMCC/Legacy engines, is something that I know even less about. Maybe it does more now?

I set the address for the engine at #1 with the TMCC remote. I then programmed the DCS remote as instructed but still not operating. I also came across another problem, I did the install yesterday and a 30 minute test run. It seemed everything function well but today I put power to the track and the locomotive took off down the rails. After putting power to the track several times it began to function normally but the last run it shot down the track again. Could it be a bad program run switch? It worked great yesterday but I do not know what happened.

I did think that it may just shoot off like that as a symptom of no signal but it didn't make sense because it worked normally. The TMCC command base grounding wire goes to the DCS fixed voltage out from the TIU if I am correct? The command base has power as the green light is on but I will need to double check the wire to make sure it is in place. I am just happy that my TMCC install was not the problem. I am also guessing that since it is only intermittently receiving a signal is why the DCS remote has no effect. Is it also possible to install the TMCC linking cable backwards?

Yes the wire goes on any TIU output black post. You need to look at the base and see if it blinks when you issue commands.

I was thinking it was your install that wasn't working correctly from your descriptions.

The antenna might be grounding?

There is a post here about putting the DCS/TMCC connecting cable backwards and it not working.
