Re: TMCC Speed Control Using transformer

I have a new Lionel TMCC D&H RS-11 engine, product # 6-18596 made in year 2001.

I run it with an MTH Z4000 transformer. I do not have a Command Control remote or hand held controller.

When I first got it, it would accelerate up to 12 volts and then when I increased the voltage, it ran at same speed even at 18 volts. It also produced very good smoke at that voltage. A Forum Member advised me how to get the train to accelerate at higher than 12 volts using my transformer.

Now, my question is: how can I get my engine to go back to the way it originally was by using my transformer? In other words, how do I get it to stop accelerating beyond 12 volts using my transformer so it runs smoothly at same slow speed from 12 to 18 volts?

You need to set the speed control. Its listed in the manual on how to do this:

Conventional Operation

• Setting Speed Control

1. Run the engine at the desired speed for approximately 5 seconds.

2. Press and hold the horn button.

3. While holding the horn button, increase the track voltage by at least 3 volts (at least

1/4 turn).

4. Speed control is set. (NOTE: Engine speed will increase slightly then return to set

speed.)

• Turning Off Speed Control:

1. While the engine is in neutral

, turn the Controller up to the maximum power, wait 1

second then press and hold the horn button.

2. While holding the horn button slowly

, reduce track voltage to 1/4 the full power.

3. Release horn.

4. Cycle the engine to forward/reverse. The engine is now out of speed control mode.

CAUTION

: In conventional operation, the smoke unit and lights are connected

directly to track power. Do not exceed 14-16 volts for extended periods. Doing so will

cause damage to the locomotive

Thank you Joe. That solves the problem.

I did not initially see that in the manual because it is not under transformer operations,but rather Odyssey System Operations, and I did not know what that is and did not read it.
