As some of you may know, I model Amtrak. I like the MTH Amfleet coaches, but I only have one set, 20-65142. I scarfed it up a few months ago because it sported my favorite Amtrak paint scheme (I) and because they had the chrome-plated finish, (or whatever it is that simulates the aluminum). The latest run of AEM7s have it as well. I think the plating gives them a very prototypical look from their early days, and, honestly, I just like it better. In passing, it is the only set I have seen that also comes with people figures installed.
The problem is that MTH apparently made only a very brief run of Amfleets with plating, as they are nearly impossible to find, and the new run recently delivered this summer do not have it to the best of my knowledge. I am curious if anyone in the group has any sources for them, or has any they might be sick of. I believe they were made in Phase 1 and Phase 3 paint, maybe even Phase 4. My passenger train will stay at 4 cars for the foreseeable future if none are found, as I do not want to mix plated with matte finish. Thank you for any information.
