Have long wanted to add Narrow Gauge On30 logging/mining pike to existing O scale 3-rail layout but have no room. Have decided to build completely separate pike, but only available space is a 12-ft long straight stretch against a basement wall. My O scale layout uses modules of 4' by 30" depth at 48" high. Any suggestions on a way to create a loop for continuous run in this space? Using Bachmann Spectrum Shay/Climax at ultra slow speed - ? min. curve 12-18" radius? Could potentially expand depth to 40" & have return loop at rear edge of layout.  A siding or two would be nice. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks for your kind reply; I was beginning to think my inquiry too mundane to elicit any response from presumably grayer-haired forum members. I wish I could go 4 ft deep, but alas no room, nor is my arm reach (even with a lift) quite that long. The curves look to be about 20" nominal radius; I should be able to make this work. Appreciate your effort & look forward to learning as I go along, with the help of experts in the field.

HI DON

I used 18"radius curves on all three plans

I believe the curves would fit on the 40" depth you wanted.

the grid I set was 144" x 48"

I did a dog bone instead of a reverse loops on ends to avoid cost of electronics .

Please note Anyrail has the Micro Engineering track in the track library.

I used Atlas Because I dont use flextrack . I dont know how to use it in the program .

Feel free to contact me again if you want to try something different.

HI DON

Both of those layouts look like they need more depth than you want.

both look like 48" or more in depth.

Sorry for delay . Sunday & Monday were crazy for me .

Folded Dogbone II

Twice Around

Once again, appreciate your input. As my space is rather confined, I think the easiest thing for me at this point is to just spread out some track on the floor & see what's possible. I assume the twice around & dogbone layouts I posted were likely to be used with access to both sides (not against the wall). Will certainly keep your suggestions in mind as I explore the possibilities.
