Hi Dan, not at all. I always get irritated with the same complaints and excuses form American Flyer as to why they can't do things for the last 20 years. 

As far as wrong side of the bed, I always get up and climb out of bed at the bottom of the bed. That way I never get up on the wrong side! Problem solved.
