I have a Lionel trackmobile that one of the plastic drive gears disintegrated!!. This unit is one PITA to try to work on. Will the Err Mini-commander2 work on this ? Or does this needs the board with the tethered caps?? I am at wits end trying to fit everything back together.

Umm, why would you need new electronics when the mechanics [gear disintegrated] failed? Would you not need a new gear? Am I missing something?
Well, at least I can agree they're a PITA to work on. I made the mistake of picking mine up and getting a finger on the windows, one promptly popped inside. In order to get it installed again, the whole thing had to come apart.
Just think of the great feeling of accomplishment when you do get it back together. And it works!
Anyway. Most of the parts for these are available including the control board. Buy it on line this weekend during Lionel's parts sale (if you need any parts).
