A few years ago on the OGR Forum, a fellow posted how to replace traction tires with silicone sealant. How has this technique worked for those who did it?

Sounds like a bad idea. Especially when you have to remove and replace it. Automotive RTV is not meant to be used in an application that handles torque (like a spinning wheel). It's meant to seal in liquids.

My supply of MTH traction tires is nearly depleted. Lionel's traction tires are too wide for Rail King locomotives. Is there a new supplier of traction tires now that MTH is gone? Is there a better alternative to traction tires?

Were  you able to find them? I ordered a dozen Tires from Midge in the MTH parts department last week.
