Traction tires for Northern 6-48047

Look at the 6SP8075065  on this page

It's the closest I can find to the specs that show on the parts list for your loco.  .875 diameter is @22.2 mm     The MTH DE-23 might work as well.

I pasted a note below from Doug Peck at Portlines newsletter, I think he has the tires available.  I also found the link to the page for ordering.

  April:  We now have replacement Pullmor traction bands available for the Lionel-Flyer Northern 4-8-4 steam engine. Like the bands recently made available for the Mikado, these are not a Lionel (Chinese rubber) product. These are the same quality as most of our Pullmor bands for Gilbert steam and diesel engines.  $5.00 per pair.

I assume, from Doug Peck's comments, that the original Lionel Chinese-made tires do not hold up, as you apparently have found out. If it were me I would buy the replacements that Doug now carries (and in fact since I have one of these engines stored away, I will get some from him at York this fall just in case mine have not aged well either). But, if you want a cheaper alternate, Brasseur Electric Trains lists them on their website (http://www.traindoctor.com/ser...r/americanflyers.php).

Hi Fellas -

   Thank for your attention to my questions. I believe I will order tires from Peck at Portline!! I also have found a substitute in among my own parts. I found some replacement tires I had ordered many moons ago for my Hudsons and tried them on for size. They are just a bit small in Dia. and alittle thicker but they stretched enough to provide a tight fit(no slippage) and the extra thickness was/is no problem!! To be safe will probably replace with Dougs but is as a sub in a pinch these work great!

  Also, speaking of Doug I am just about to complete an installation of Dougs DC motor w/flywheel and AC solidstate reverse unit in a refurb of an Old Northern. Completed the wiring and testing and ready to start reassembly..
