Trains seen today on the north side of Murfreesboro Tn. Sept 15, 2019. Murfreesboro is on the CSX mainline between Nashville and Chattanooga.

  1. CSX southbound double-stack intermodal train at 9:00am. This one had a mid-train DPU.
  2. CSX southbound loaded coal train at 12:30pm. This one stopped behind the Shell station for a few minutes, possibly due to track work.
  3. CSX southbound mixed freight train at 3:50pm. I saw this one while photographing boxcars at International Paper Company Plant.
  4. CSX southbound autorack train at 4:10pm. I saw his headlight up the track from the Thompson Lane Overpass. I chased him for a short distance on US 41.

A productive day, I think.

I well remember the early 1970's in Nashville (still L&N) when there were mostly graffiti-free railcars and a variety of colorful boxcars. I lament the modern state of rolling stock which are, for the most part, dingy, grimy and graffiti-scrawled - unfortunately NOT very aesthetic for my taste! Railroad car graffiti IS vandalism, and definitely NOT art! Oh, and I miss cabooses, which were still around in the early 1970's. All change is not necessarily good! 😐
